Swedish Red Cross in Gothenburg is now recruiting a café manager who wants to start, lead and develop our café. About Swedish Red Cross in Gothenburg Our local chapter, Göteborgskretsen, has around 3,000 members and around thirty activities made possible and carried out through the commitment of over 380 volunteers. We work with involuntary isolation, health and inclusion, basic humanitarian needs, crisis preparedness, second-hand operations and fundraising. The chapter is led by a volunteer-engaged board and currently has four employees responsible for operational work. Our development plans in Bergsjön For the past year, we have been operating a meeting place at Galaxen in Bergsjön where people meet, build relationships and strengthen community in the area. Now we are taking the next step by opening Café Galaxen – a social café that will be an open, warm and welcoming place for conversation, participation and spontaneous meetings between people with different backgrounds and experiences. Together with employees, volunteers and trainees, we want to create a vibrant and inclusive meeting place where everyone feels welcome and has the opportunity to contribute. Café Galaxen will be characterized by our values of sustainability, humanity and community, and become a natural gathering point for people in Bergsjön. About the role As manager, you will lead and operate the café. You are responsible for daily operations, training and mentoring volunteers and trainees while working hands-on in the café with all tasks that come with running a café. You are responsible for creating a welcoming café with a sustainable and creative offering. Our café is diversity in practice – you will work with different volunteers and trainees every day, which means you need to have great flexibility, social competence and strong communication skills. You will Initially work on planning and establishing the café, and then develop the operation gradually. Lead and operate daily café activities. Plan and develop the menu Train and introduce volunteers and trainees. Create a positive and inclusive environment for both visitors and volunteers. Work hands-on in the café (cash register, baking, serving, dishwashing, cleaning, etc.). Manage food budget and purchasing, be resource-efficient and minimize waste. Maintain hygiene standards in accordance with regulations and ensure that all rules are followed by those working in the café. Receive orders and manage billing documentation. Contribute to the development of the entire operation at Galaxen together with volunteers and employees. Who are you? Requirements Minimum one year of experience ensuring that food safety and hygiene regulations are followed in a café. Minimum 2–4 years of leadership experience Experience with similar tasks or education in café, pastry, or restaurant operations, such as baker or café assistant. Meritorious Experience working with volunteers and/or people in work training. Lived or worked in Bergsjön Good knowledge of for example Somali and Arabic or other languages. Practical information The position is located at Swedish Red Cross meeting place Galaxen in Bergsjön. Start date by agreement. The position is a fixed-term employment for two years. Initially at 60% and as operations expand, it will increase according to needs. After two years, there is a likely possibility of extension. A certificate from the criminal record register will be requested (Barn i annan verksamhet, e-tjänst | Polismyndigheten).
