The University offers a unique opportunity to develop comprehensive research skills throughout the entire mining chain—from exploration, mining operations, processing and metal production, to remediation after mining activities cease. We are now seeking an Assistant Professor to strengthen our team in mining production. Subject Description Mining and rock engineering encompasses mining technology, rock engineering and rock mechanics, including rock mass properties, tunnel construction technology, design and dimensioning of mines and rock structures, and planning and production processes related to both mining and infrastructure development. Duties Assistant Professors shall conduct research, research supervision, and be involved in teaching activities within relevant areas of the research subject. Particular emphasis is placed on applied research within our field, so good relationships with Swedish and international mining and mineral industries are important. Assistant Professors are also expected to contribute to the University's development, that is, to help obtain external funding for the subject, to communicate research results through academic publications, and to participate in management and administrative tasks. Qualifications To meet the requirements for employment as an Assistant Professor, the applicant must have completed a doctoral degree, or have a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline. However, those who have completed their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. Assessment Criteria The following assessment criteria apply to the position: scientific competence other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria (in order of priority): Doctoral degree in rock engineering, mining or civil engineering with a focus on rock engineering or similar Blasting technology competence with focus on field and laboratory studies The position involves work at security-classified facilities, which includes security vetting. Experience of international research collaboration Ability to communicate research and development work Fluency in spoken and written English as well as knowledge of Swedish are meriting Term of Employment This employment is for a term of four years. Placement will be in Luleå. Promotion to Professor The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for employment as a Professor. An Assistant Professor shall, upon application, be promoted to Professor and given a permanent employment if they are qualified for a Professor position, and upon review are deemed suitable for such employment according to the assessment criteria stated below. Promotion requires that the Assistant Professor has completed university pedagogy education equivalent to 7.5 credits, or has otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. During the term of employment, the Assistant Professor must also independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the University's research and have demonstrated good pedagogical competence.
