About Us
The Regional Archives is Sweden's largest municipal/regional archive. It contains over 12 million paper documents and large quantities of digital information. The public, researchers, companies, and government agencies seek information from us regarding schools, social services, healthcare, politics, urban planning, local transportation, culture, associations in Gothenburg, and much more.
For it to be possible to locate and provide the material that is requested, we must ensure that the right information is preserved in the right way. We do this by making decisions, conducting oversight, and providing training, advice, and support to the authorities. The regulations we follow make it possible to develop modern information management in collaboration with the activities. It should be as easy as possible for authorities to do the right thing. The Regional Archives also develops and adapts a digital final archive to meet future information needs.
The Regional Archives is an agency of Göteborg Stad and is governed by the Archives Board, the joint archive authority for the Region of Västra Götaland and Göteborg Stad. The agency has approximately 50 employees in Gothenburg and Vänersborg who in various ways contribute to ensuring that the right information is preserved and accessible today and in the future.
