The Department of Romance and Classical Languages is part of the humanities area and the Faculty of Humanities at Stockholm University. The department encompasses the main areas of Romance languages, Classical languages, and Latin American studies.
Academic education in Romance languages has been offered in Stockholm since the late 1920s. Basic education in Romance languages was divided into four languages during the 1960s: French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. The department is today a dynamic research and educational environment with approximately 70 employees.
Around 200 students study Portuguese each academic year at basic, advanced, and research levels, with varying study pace. Teaching and research in Portuguese is directed toward the Portuguese-speaking world in a broad sense.

Job Duties
The main job duties consist of teaching and research assistance in Portuguese.
Teaching occurs mainly at the basic level and primarily includes student-active teaching methods and skills training. The teaching assistant assists course instructors and can, for example, lead study workshops, language skills sessions, conversation exercises, grammar exercises, and text seminars. Other teaching tasks may also be included (such as grading practice assignments and other student work according to instructions from the subject study director, as well as course administrative tasks, for example, work in the learning platform Canvas).
Research assistance involves participation in ongoing linguistic research projects related to Portuguese (including literature searches and collection of research materials, processing and organizing research materials, coding and verification coding, registration, documentation and organization of data, compilation and quality assurance of collected materials, other research-related work).
In addition to teaching and research assistance, the teaching assistant may participate in the department's and subject's internal work. The teaching assistant also serves as a link between students and instructors and helps provide students with good conditions for conducting their studies.
Qualifications
Eligible for employment as a teaching assistant is someone who is admitted to education at basic or advanced level at a university or college. The person offered the position must be able to document ongoing studies upon taking office.
The applicant should have:
very good knowledge of Portuguese in speech and writing
very good knowledge of Swedish and English
good study ability and documented ability to pursue academic studies
ability to work carefully and in a structured manner
It is advantageous to have:
previous experience with teaching, mentoring, or other pedagogical tasks
previous experience with research work or participation in research projects
experience with Canvas or equivalent digital learning platform
Personal Qualities
We place great importance on personal suitability. We seek someone with good collaboration skills who is careful, responsible, and organized. You should be able to organize and plan your work independently while also enjoying working together with instructors and researchers. Since the work tasks are varied, you also need to be flexible and quick to learn new tasks.
About the Employment
The position comprises 40 percent of full-time and is limited to 3 months with the possibility of extension. Start date by agreement.
