Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan, GIH, is Sweden's leading knowledge center for sport, performance development, physical activity, and health. We conduct high-quality research with societal relevance, focusing on the human in motion. We educate teachers in the school subject physical education and health, as well as coaches, health scientists, behavioral scientists, sports and health managers, sports scientists, and researchers. The Department of Physiology, Nutrition, and Biomechanics (FNB) conducts education and research in the subjects of biomechanics and physiology. We are now seeking a research assistant who wants to combine studies with meaningful and developmental research work. The position includes participation in research projects investigating how glycogen availability and amino acid supply in conjunction with strength training affect protein turnover in skeletal muscle. Particular focus is on fiber type-specific effects.
Responsibilities
In your role as a research assistant, you will mainly be involved in analyses of previously collected muscle samples from various studies. Your responsibilities include:
Participate in planning, development, and execution of molecular biological and biochemical analyses on type I and type II muscle fibers from humans.
Compilation of data from completed analyses
Assist with other tasks related to other ongoing research projects.
Qualifications
You must be admitted to and be an active student in an education at basic or advanced level at a Swedish educational institution.
Documented experience with molecular biological and biochemical analyses (with emphasis on enzyme analyses and antibody-based analyses).

Meritorious:
Experience from previous laboratory work with human skeletal muscle, particularly type I and type II muscle fibers.
Duration/Working Hours
The employment is fixed-term according to HF 5 kap § 12. The scope is 50% of full-time. Start date by agreement, until December 31, 2026.
For research assistant positions, employment can be for a maximum of one year at a time, but a total of no more than three years. The holder of the position should be a student throughout the employment period.
