At the Department of Swedish and Multilingualism, research and education are conducted in Swedish and Nordic languages, Swedish as a second language, bilingualism (at the Center for Bilingualism Research), and interpreting and translation studies (at the Institute for Interpreters and Translators). A major responsibility also includes teaching Swedish to international students and academics at the Division for Swedish as a Foreign Language. We are now recruiting three lecturers. More information about the department is available on our website. Subject/Subject Description Swedish as a second language/Swedish as a foreign language for international students and academics. Job Duties Job duties include teaching and assessment of language proficiency in Swedish courses for international students and academics, Swedish as a foreign language, academic Swedish for second language speakers, and teaching in the Further Education for Foreign-Trained Teachers (ULV) program. Other commissioned teaching may also occur, as well as construction of tests in various skills at levels A1–C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and assessment of oral and written language proficiency within Tisus (Test i svenska för universitets- och högskolestudier). Teaching takes place on campus both during day and evening hours. Course coordination may be included. Administrative duties may also be part of the role. Qualifications Required To be eligible for employment, you must demonstrate documented pedagogical competence and provide evidence of a completed teacher's degree or master's degree with a focus on Swedish as a second language, or show documented equivalent subject competence. All teaching positions at Stockholm University require that the applicant has the ability to collaborate and is otherwise suitable to perform the job duties. Excellent proficiency in Swedish is a prerequisite for employment. Assessment Criteria Particular and equal weight is placed on adequate education and documented experience teaching in the relevant subject areas/courses. Particular weight is also given to documented professional experience and pedagogical competence in oral and written skills training in Swedish as a foreign language in an academic environment, as well as teaching academic Swedish to international academics. Experience teaching Swedish as a foreign language at university level is meritorious. Education in and documented experience with test construction and assessment of language proficiency in an academic environment and at levels A1–C1 (CEFR) are also given considerable weight. Scientific competence in Swedish as a second language, such as a master's degree or relevant (pedagogical) development work within the subject, is meritorious. Weight is also given to documented experience teaching sfi/sva in other educational formats, education in Swedish and special education, and documented administrative competence. Teaching experience and pedagogical competence must be well documented, and the application must include a pedagogical self-reflection. Higher education pedagogy education of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way is also meritorious. An applicant lacking higher education pedagogy education of at least 15 higher education credits must complete such education within the first two years of employment. Applicants who believe they have equivalent knowledge without having completed formal education should describe in their application how the knowledge has been acquired and why it is equivalent to the competence provided by formal education. In the overall assessment, equal weight is placed on the following assessment criteria: adequate education, professional experience, and pedagogical competence. About the Employment The position is full-time and open-ended. A six-month probationary period may apply. The position of lecturer at Stockholm University offers no opportunities for advancement to scientific positions at a higher level. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.
