Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a calm and secure male who has retained a childlike spirit. You should be able to take initiative when needed, be clear, active, and stable. You also need to be physically strong and able to perform some heavy lifting/transfers. The boy is non-verbal but can express himself through sounds; as an assistant, it's good if you feel comfortable with one-way communication.
Patience and empathy are valuable qualities for this job. Being attentive, focused, and responsive to the user's needs is essential.
We place great emphasis on personal fit, interpersonal chemistry, and teamwork ability. Since you will be working in the user's home, it is important that you maintain a professional approach. We prefer candidates who see this as a long-term opportunity.
The position involves working certain fixed evenings and every other weekend according to a schedule. However, you must be flexible and able to step in when needed, for example if a colleague becomes ill. Working hours are scheduled for afternoons/evenings on weekdays and longer daytime shifts on weekends.
The position can be 30-50% or you can work as an hourly substitute; this can be discussed at the time of employment. It may be beneficial to combine the position as an hourly substitute with studies or another part-time job.
Who is seeking a personal assistant:
I am a 14-year-old boy who has had cerebral palsy since birth. I use a wheelchair and need help with most things, as I want to be able to live my life as well and as normally as possible.
Job responsibilities:
Your tasks are to help me in my daily life. I need help with staying active, listening to music, etc., communicating, moving around, personal hygiene, tube feeding, and training according to my exercise program—this is an IMPORTANT part. Moving me outdoors and indoors in a wheelchair, practicing standing, tidying my room, and doing other fun things. There are assistive devices such as lifts available, but some heavier lifting does occur, so it's helpful to be physically strong.
Your workplace is where the customer is located.
Experience:
If you have experience working as an assistant to a child, that is a plus.
