At the Culture Department in Malmö, we are seeking our next museum director for Malmö Museum. Beyond the pride of leading Malmö Museum, we can note that Malmö city is one of the three municipalities in Sweden that invests the most in culture. With us at the Culture Department, you will lead an operation in development where several strategic development projects are underway and Malmö Museum's collection activities are in focus. As an example, we can mention the development of the entire museum area around Malmö Museum with the goal of opening it up, beautifying it, and making the place more accessible to more people. Right now we are also on an exciting and interesting development journey with the goal of further strengthening Malmö Museum's position as a cultural heritage destination, creating a unique meeting place, and further broadening and developing operations as a visitor destination now and in the future. ResponsibilitiesAs museum director, you will have overall responsibility for Malmö Museum with Malmö city and Region Skåne as commissioning parties. The assignment includes, among other things, further developing the operation as a credible and accessible knowledge organization for all visitors and continuing the work of positioning the museum as an attractive destination. You are responsible for the operation having a long-term sustainable economy through clear priorities, efficient resource use, and development of revenue opportunities. You have full responsibility for operations, staff, and work environment. An important part of the assignment is also to coordinate the operation's development processes, which are also linked to the physical museum area and future investment needs. You represent the museum in various contexts and you will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders. To assist you, you have three driving unit managers who report directly to you, and in parts of the operation there are also reporting section managers. There is also a very engaged and competent workforce with a high degree of expert and specialist competence. In addition to your own management team, you are also responsible for the operation's cooperation group with union representatives and chief safety representative. In your role as museum director, you report to the culture director and are part of the Culture Department's management team. QualificationsWe are looking for someone with solid experience in strategic management roles within the cultural field and with good work experience regarding the operational area. You are used to leading through managers and having full responsibility for operations, results, finances, personnel, work environment, and leading an expert and specialist organization. You see union cooperation and representing the operation in various internal and external contexts as a natural part of your assignment. It is a merit if you have management experience from work in a politically governed organization that is public and of media interest. If you also have an established network, both nationally and internationally, within the operational field, this is an additional merit. We will prioritize your management and leadership very highly in this recruitment as we are looking for a trusted leader who creates engagement through presence, availability, and has strong communication and pedagogical abilities. The balance between being receptive and humble while also being clear and decisive is important, as is the ability to build good relationships and networks. The assignment involves clear goal- and results-oriented work where good strategic and analytical competence will be required, combined with operational development and good financial ability. You also need to have great commitment and interest in the operation you will lead. The assignment requires a university degree of at least 180 credits in relevant education for the operational field and assignment, and that you can communicate fluently in both speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
