Data Scientist

About the position How do we optimize one of Sweden's largest forest value chains – from our members' forests, through logistics and industry, to the market? As a data scientist at Södra, you develop models and analytical solutions that help the business make better decisions across everything from raw material supply and production to logistics and market. We work with information from across the entire value chain – from our members' forests and transports to our industries and the market. Our pulp mills and sawmills also generate large amounts of process and signal data which, together with maintenance and production systems, create significant opportunities for optimization, forecasting, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance. What you'll work with at Södra You'll work on some of Södra's most analytically challenging questions and take responsibility for the model lifecycle; from problem formulation and analysis to validation, production deployment together with developers and data engineers, and continuous further development. For us, data science is an integrated part of how we build digital solutions; not a standalone analytical step. You'll become part of our Data & Analytics team where data scientists, data engineers, and developers work closely together. We develop data pipelines and predictive models on our data platform, and integrate optimization models, simulations, and forecasts into applications used by the business during every planning period. Examples of areas you could work with Optimize Södra's value chain – from forest to industry and market. Develop models for production planning and simulation. Forecast raw material supply and demand. Analyze production and process data from our industries. Develop solutions for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Work with customer and member analysis. This is a permanent position with possible work locations in Växjö or Värö, start date by agreement. Who are we looking for? We're looking for you – someone who combines a strong analytical drive with the ability to translate advanced models into solutions that are used in practice. We believe you have: Several years of experience as a data scientist, machine learning engineer, or in a similar role. A master's degree in engineering or doctorate in fields such as computer science, mathematics, or physics. Very strong Python skills and experience developing production-ready code. Experience with statistical modeling, optimization, time series analysis, and machine learning. Experience with SQL and modern data platforms. Experience with Databricks, dbt, or Azure is a plus. Ability to understand how data, models, and business processes connect, and to collaborate with both technical and business-focused stakeholders. Strong communication skills in Swedish and English. It's a plus if you have experience from industry, supply chain, or the forestry sector. Want to know more? Questions about the recruitment process? Contact responsible recruiter [email protected]. Build a sustainable society with us Södra is one of the country's largest forest industry companies and is jointly owned by more than 50,000 family forest operations in southern Sweden. In addition to developing forestry, we strive to always use forest raw materials in the most efficient and climate-smart way. Pulp, timber products, textile fiber, and bioproducts are just a few examples. By working together, we have the strength, commitment, and courage needed to build a sustainable society. We do this with our feet on the ground, our ear to the world, and our eyes on the future.
