Job Description
As a Mechanical Design Engineer at AFRY, you will work across the entire spectrum of mechanical engineering design. The role involves creating 3D models and technical drawings using CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor, making material and component selections, and performing comprehensive strength calculations. You will be a vital member of the project team, responsible for the mechanical design aspects, which requires close collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines. Work takes place primarily at AFRY's office or at the client site, with some possibility for remote work.
We expect you to drive the design work from concept to finished solution and contribute your expertise to ensure the project delivers according to specifications and schedule. You will receive support from your manager and a designated buddy to help you settle into the role, plus access to AFRY's extensive network of specialists. In the longer term, there are excellent opportunities for development – such as deepening your expertise in strength calculations, taking on the role of design lead or project manager, and developing as a consultant with a holistic perspective in client projects.
Certain assignments may require security clearance, which means the role may involve classified projects in the future.
Qualifications
In the role of Mechanical Design Engineer, your personal qualities are essential for success. You need to be a Problem Solver who can handle complex design challenges by seeing the bigger picture and approaching problems from multiple angles. It is also important that you Plan and Structure your work, with clear plans for design assignments and organized drawings and versions to ensure project quality. The role also requires you to be Proactive, as consultants are often expected to drive work forward without detailed supervision. Finally, it is crucial that you are Service-Oriented, since you represent AFRY with clients and must act with a service mindset, deliver according to client needs, and be receptive to new opportunities.
Requirements
Work Experience:
Strong knowledge of general mechanical design
Experience with CAD design in some 3D CAD program
Ability to collaborate and work in project teams
Education:
University degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
System Knowledge:
Experience working with some CAD program
Language Skills:
Ability to understand and speak Swedish and English relatively fluently and in detail, both orally and in writing
Meritorious
Work Experience:
Knowledge of machining techniques
Overall understanding of welding design
Education:
Courses or experience in welding design
System Knowledge:
SolidWorks, Catia, or Inventor
