Substitute Firefighter at Östersunds Fire Station

Do you want to use your skills where they make the most difference? We are now recruiting substitute firefighters for Östersunds Fire Station for spring 2027. As a firefighter with us, you will be part of a response team that contributes daily to the safety of residents in Jämtland County. Through rescue operations, training, and daily work at the fire station, you help maintain our operational capacity when it matters most. The employment begins as an hourly substitute position with the possibility of extension, and there is also an opportunity for summer substitute work in 2027 based on operational needs. As a substitute firefighter, you will be part of a response team consisting of a team leader and five firefighters. You will participate in operational rescue operations and work with colleagues to maintain high readiness and efficient station operations. Your duties will include: - Participating in rescue operations - Conducting training and skills development - Maintaining rescue equipment, vehicles, and facilities - Contributing to the daily operations of the fire station The work is varied and requires teamwork, initiative, and a professional approach. About Us Jämtland Rescue Service Association is responsible for rescue services and prevention activities according to the Rescue Act in all eight municipalities in Jämtland County. We operate 35 fire stations and 9 rescue stations, and most of our approximately 600 employees are firefighters on standby (RiB). Östersunds Fire Station is the county's only full-time station and is staffed 24/7. Our full-time team operates from here for rescue operations in Östersund and the surrounding area, and the station is an important part of the county's overall capacity. Qualifications To be eligible for the position, you must: - Have completed term 2 of the SMO training or be employed as an RiB firefighter within Jämtland Rescue Service Association - Have a driver's license category B Meriting Qualifications: - Experience from rescue services - Knowledge of acute healthcare - Practical professional experience Selection Process After the application deadline, candidates will be selected based on formal qualifications. Selected candidates will be invited to two test days during week 42 (preliminary October 12-13, 2026). During these days, physical tests according to MSB's test model, work-related practical tasks, pool tests to ensure water safety and breath-hold diving ability, as well as a competency-based interview and short oral presentation will be conducted. Employment and Terms The employment begins as an hourly substitute position during spring 2027, with the possibility of extension through the summer based on operational needs. Salary and other employment terms according to collective agreement. Alcohol and drug testing may be conducted in connection with new employment.
