About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and prisoner transport. Job Description As a legal counsel in the Legal Affairs Section – Enforcement, Criminal Law, and related matters – you will provide legal advice to the agency's management and to other parts of the organization regarding execution of sentences legislation, criminal and procedural law, and related issues. You will continuously provide legal support in change and development processes and contribute to legal governance within the agency. Your work will also include responsibility for reviewing and monitoring the agency's regulations and general guidance as well as other governing documents. You will prepare and present the agency's formal responses to consultation requests and draft opinions for, among others, the Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Chancellor of Justice. Your work may also include drafting proposals for legislative amendments to the Government. You will provide support in legal proceedings, represent the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in court, and make decisions in certain compensation and damages matters. Work as a legal counsel is independent and varied. The role involves ongoing contact with, among others, the Government Offices, other agencies, and other parts of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. There are good opportunities for remote work of up to 60 percent depending on individual circumstances. The position is based in either Malmö, Gothenburg, Stockholm, or Norrköping. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is analytical and has the ability to identify solutions to complex issues. You have sound judgment and make correct assessments even in situations where multiple interests or perspectives need to be considered. You are responsive, communicative, and enjoy working together with others. At the same time, you work independently, take great responsibility for your tasks, and are committed to delivering high quality in everything you undertake. We are looking for someone who has: • A law degree • Notarial certification or other equivalent experience • Excellent ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish It is also advantageous to have: • Judicial training • Experience working with legal issues within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service or within another activity, agency, or organization with close cooperation or contact points with the Service's mission.
