Verification Editor at UR, Sweden's Educational Broadcasting
Are you an experienced journalist with specialized expertise in fact-checking and verification methods? Are you passionate about safeguarding media credibility against misinformation and want to help develop how a modern public service newsroom approaches verification?
As a verification editor at UR, you'll take on a new, exciting key role with significant scope to influence and develop our fact-checking methods and procedures. You'll work to support the entire programming department in their work with all our target audiences.
Responsibilities
About the Role
In this role, you will further develop methods and approaches for fact-checking and verification. You will work both at a strategic, overarching level and operationally on specific projects with the goal of contributing to high credibility, quality, and reliability.
Your main responsibilities:
Drive the development of working methods in projects focused on fact verification and research, and lead transparency initiatives.
Provide operational support to editorial teams and assist producers, editors, and reporters on matters of research, source criticism, and verification.
Conduct internal training and follow up to ensure projects use correct methods for research and verification.
Stay updated with the latest digital tools for verification regarding images, text, and video.
Collaborate both internally within UR and within the public service family, and cooperate with relevant external stakeholders.
To succeed in this role, you are a curious and analytical journalist who can identify logic and connections in complex information without losing sight of long-term strategy. You are organized, communicative, and have excellent collaboration skills. Since this is a new role for us, you need to thrive in a changing environment, enjoy testing new solutions, and drive development work forward.
Qualifications
Journalism education or equivalent experience.
Documented experience of journalistic work and qualified social research.
Several years of practical experience with advanced fact-checking, source criticism, and verification methods in media production.
Very strong knowledge of OSINT methods, as well as digital research and verification tools.
Experience using AI tools in research and fact-checking work.
Solid editorial knowledge and good understanding of public service conditions and UR's unique character.
Very strong Swedish language skills, both spoken and written, and good knowledge of English.
It is a merit if you also have:
Experience with change initiatives at a newsroom or media organization.
Experience in management and/or conducting training.
