More information about us can be found at: Department of Slavic and Baltic Languages, Finnish, Dutch and German Subject/Subject Description Teaching within the Division of German is offered from undergraduate to doctoral level and is focused on the German language, literature and German-speaking cultures as well as didactic perspectives on these areas. At the division, we strive to structure our courses so that it becomes clear how different course components and elements connect. This involves close collaboration between teachers in both planning and implementation, and "team teaching" occurs. Researchers at the Division of German work within a broad field of interests: language and identity, contrastive text and discourse linguistics, multimodality theory, political and internet-based communication, cultural learning and language didactics, historical genre research, intermediality, early modern literature, exile literature, urban literature, collective identities and cultural memory, literature and multilingualism, and culture transfer, cosmopolitanism and world literature. Job Responsibilities The position includes research, teaching and supervision at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as administration. Teaching encompasses both campus-based and digital instruction as well as sometimes hybrid format teaching. The position involves primarily teaching on German-language literature and literary studies at undergraduate and advanced levels, but also includes instruction in academic writing and thesis supervision. Some beginning-level instruction or instruction in German language skills courses may also occur. Teaching is primarily scheduled for evening hours and in certain course components is conducted jointly with other teachers at the division. Job responsibilities also include active participation in the department's seminar and research environment, some course administration, and work with the university's learning platform. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, one must have demonstrated teaching skills and have completed a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. All teaching positions at Stockholm University require that the applicant has the ability to collaborate and is otherwise suitable to perform the job responsibilities. The language of instruction is German with few exceptions. Excellent knowledge of German is therefore required. Since contrastive elements are also included in the teaching, very good knowledge of Swedish is also required. Evaluation Criteria Particular weight is placed on teaching skills, demonstrated through instruction within the relevant position's subject area and focus. The skills must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activities. Particular weight is also placed on scientific skills. Scientific skills shall be demonstrated through independent scientific production, publications, presentations at international conferences and international research collaborations within areas relevant to the position. The skills must be documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality and scope of the scientific qualifications. Great weight is placed on documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and on experience of collegial collaboration in teaching. Great weight is placed on documented experience with web-based instruction in German as a foreign language at university level and experience with learning platforms such as Canvas. Meritorious are the ability to cooperate with surrounding society and administrative skills. Also meritorious is higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways. About the Position The position is approximately 50–60% of full-time and is limited-term until 2027-01-31. Start date 2026-09-01 or by agreement.
