The Workplace and Academic Environment The Department of Philosophy, with around seventy employees divided between practical and theoretical philosophy and cognitive research, is a research-intensive institution committed to having knowledgeable and engaged teachers and offering its more than two hundred fifty students education of the highest quality. Research in practical philosophy at Lund University has been internationally recognized for some time for its contributions particularly in value theory, action philosophy and social ontology, rights theory, and moral responsibility. Educationally, the focus is on morality (moral philosophy, metaethics, applied ethics, rights theory), politics (political philosophy), practical rationality (action theory, decision theory), aesthetics, and philosophy of religion. Within practical philosophy, advanced-level courses are offered that provide opportunities for specialization within the main subject for master's degrees. Since 2014, the subject has also offered, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science and the Department of Economics, a popular bachelor's program in Practical Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). Job Responsibilities The position holder shall conduct teaching, research, and supervision in practical philosophy and, in collaboration with other department staff, further develop the educational and research environment. Employment as a University Lecturer includes teaching at the undergraduate level, advanced level, and doctoral level, as well as supervising students at the advanced level and doctoral students in practical philosophy. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. The position may also include responsibility for the PPE program and internal and/or external advisory assignments. Other tasks such as administrative work may also be included. Furthermore, the position holder is expected to actively seek external research funding. Qualifications Eligibility Requirements Completed doctoral degree in practical philosophy or equivalent scientific competence, or other professional skills of relevance given the subject content of the position and the work tasks involved. Demonstrated pedagogical skills. Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge acquired in another manner. If special circumstances exist, for example when the applicant did not have the opportunity to acquire such knowledge in previous employment, employment may still be offered. The employee shall then complete higher education pedagogical training during the first two years of employment so that the requirement is met. Good documented ability to teach in Swedish. If such ability is lacking, employment may still be offered. The employee shall then, within two years from the first day of employment, acquire such ability so that after this period they can take on administrative and pedagogical work tasks that require good Swedish language skills. Good documented ability to speak and write academic English. About the Faculties of Humanities and Theology The Faculties of Humanities and Theology have seven departments and conduct extensive and varied activities in research and education. We have approximately 700 employees and approximately 4,000 full-time equivalent students. About the Department of Philosophy The Department of Philosophy has approximately 80 employees. The department conducts research and education in three subjects: cognitive science, practical philosophy, and theoretical philosophy. The subjects are largely independent with respect to research and educational directions, but there are also close collaborations between them.
