The Department of Odontology provides education for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technicians at basic and advanced levels, as well as supplementary education for dentists with foreign degrees. The department also conducts research and research education within odontological science and continuing education activities. The Pediatric Dentistry Division conducts research in pediatric dentistry with a broad focus on treatment and hard tissue research. Subject Pediatric Dentistry Subject Description Pediatric Dentistry is the specialized and specific dental subject that encompasses all aspects of oral care for children and adolescents including treatment and prevention. Pediatric Dentistry includes diagnostics, therapy planning, and treatment of all occurring disease conditions in the growing individual. Job Responsibilities Teaching at basic and advanced levels where the applicant's professional experience shall be applied in relevant teaching situations as well as research and research supervision within the subject area. Teaching is conducted in Swedish. Supervision of thesis work is included as well as teaching in continuing education. Administrative tasks concerning course provision, development of study plans, and course planning are included. The job responsibilities include actively seeking funding for own research. Qualifications Qualifications for employment as a lecturer are specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. Qualified for employment as a University Lecturer is someone who has completed a doctoral degree within what the employer deems to be a relevant subject area for the current recruitment and has demonstrated pedagogical skills. Dental license and specialist competence in pediatric dentistry with documented clinical experience are required. Swedish in speech and writing is a requirement for employment. Assessment Criteria Assessment criteria for employment as a lecturer are specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and in University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. In the assessment, scientific and pedagogical skills will be weighted equally and placed first. Clinical skills and administrative skills will be weighted equally and placed second. When assessing pedagogical skills, great importance will be placed on documented skills and independence in the form of experience with teaching at basic and advanced levels in pediatric dentistry as well as supervision of thesis work. The skills must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activities. Completed higher education pedagogy training is meritorious. In assessing scientific skills, particular weight shall be placed on the ability to conduct research in pediatric dentistry and in areas relevant to the subject. The applicant must have demonstrated skill in initiating, planning, leading, and developing research. When assessing clinical skills, particular weight will be given to documented experience in clinical work within the pediatric dentistry specialty. Clinical competence that can be applied in teaching situations is especially meritorious. Administrative skills are assessed based on experience with and ability in course administration. In the appointment, weight will also be placed on the ability to collaborate collegially, cooperation both internally and externally, and leadership skills. Employment Permanent employment with 50% full-time equivalent. Position at the Department of Odontology. Start date by agreement. Other Information If the applicant lacks formal higher education pedagogy training at University of Gothenburg, the applicant is expected to have completed higher education pedagogy training or acquired equivalent knowledge no later than one year from the start of employment. Assessment of such higher education pedagogy qualifications shall be made in a special procedure in accordance with a decision by the rector.
