Subject/Subject Description
Cultural geography is about the relationship between people and places. The subject is based on cultural geography and social science theory. Urban planning involves balancing and weighing different interests against each other and creating conditions for sustainable development. The Department of Cultural Geography has a broad social geography profile with teaching in the main areas of Cultural Geography, Urban Planning, Geography, and Global Development. We also participate in several interdisciplinary programs at undergraduate and advanced levels.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching, research, and administration, as well as monitoring and contributing to developments within the field of urban planning from both research and teaching perspectives.
Teaching takes place primarily in urban planning programs at undergraduate and advanced levels, but teaching also occurs within other programs. Teaching at the undergraduate level is conducted mainly in Swedish, while teaching at the advanced level is conducted in English. During the first two years, teaching commitments are expected to account for at least 50%.
The position includes competence and research time according to applicable collective agreements.
Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer, one must hold a doctoral degree in cultural geography, urban planning, or have equivalent scientific competence and have demonstrated teaching ability.
It is required to have pedagogical and research merits within the field of urban planning.
The applicant must have both the ability to collaborate and the ability and suitability otherwise necessary to perform the duties well.
To perform the position's tasks, the applicant must have documented ability to use Swedish orally and in writing at a professional level. This is demonstrated, for example, through documented experience teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language proficiency equivalent to at least B2 level (CEFR).
Evaluation Criteria
Particular and equal weight is given to pedagogical and scientific expertise within the field of urban planning.
Pedagogical ability is normally demonstrated through teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The ability must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of pedagogical activities.
Great weight is placed on documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and coworkers.
Great weight is placed on successfully planning, applying for, and obtaining funding for research projects from external funders within the field of urban planning.
Great weight is placed on knowledge of Swedish urban planning and planning theory and/or practical experience.
Weight is given to administrative ability and to the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to communicate research and development work.
Meritorious are higher education teaching qualifications of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.
About the Position
The position is permanent and full-time, with start date by agreement. A six-month probationary period may be applied.
Applicants who lack higher education teaching qualifications of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must complete such training during the first two years of employment.
