Subject/Subject Description
Cultural geography examines the relationship between people and places. The subject is grounded in cultural geographic and social science theory. Global development focuses on global inequality and development challenges, particularly in the Global South. The Department of Cultural Geography has a broad social geographic profile and offers instruction in the main areas of Cultural Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Global Development, and Geography. We also participate in several interdisciplinary programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Duties
The position involves teaching, research, and administration, as well as monitoring and contributing to developments within the field of global development from both research and teaching perspectives.
Teaching occurs primarily in the Global Development program, but also in the programs in Cultural Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, and Geography, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate instruction is provided in Swedish, while graduate-level instruction is provided in English. During the first two years, teaching responsibilities are expected to comprise at least 50%.
The employment includes professional development and research time according to applicable terms agreements.
Qualification Requirements
Eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer is someone who has earned a doctoral degree in Cultural Geography or possesses equivalent scientific competence and has demonstrated pedagogical skill.
A requirement is to have pedagogical and research qualifications within the field of global development.
The applicant must demonstrate both the ability to collaborate and the competence and suitability otherwise necessary to perform the duties of the position well.
To perform the duties of the position, the applicant must have documented ability to use Swedish in speech and writing at a professional level. This can be demonstrated, for example, through documented experience teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language proficiency equivalent to at least B2 level (CEFR).
Assessment Criteria
Particular and equal weight is given to pedagogical and scientific skill within the field of global development.
Pedagogical skill is normally demonstrated through teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The skill must be well documented in a manner that allows for assessment of the quality of the pedagogical work.
Great weight is given to documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and co-workers.
Great weight is given to successfully planning, seeking, and obtaining funding for research projects from external funders within the field of global development.
Weight is given to administrative skill and the ability to cooperate with the surrounding community and to communicate research and development work.
Advantage is given to higher education pedagogy training of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.
About the Position
The position is permanent full-time, with start date by agreement. A six-month probationary period may be applied.
Applicants who lack higher education pedagogy training of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not otherwise assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge must complete such training during the first two years of employment.
