At the Department of Diagnostics and Intervention, we conduct research and teach within nine different subject areas in close collaboration with the four Norrland regions. We have internationally recognized research environments where the breadth of subject areas enables innovation and collaboration across boundaries. Most of our researchers and teachers work clinically, and our facilities are located at the regional hospitals in Östersund, Sunderbyn, Sundsvall, and Umeå - in the heart of the activity. Duties The position includes teaching and supervision in the field of surgery within education at bachelor's and advanced levels in the medical program. Teaching in other programs and courses and/or in adjacent subject areas may be included, as well as teaching in general competencies that are part of professional education. Some teaching will take place through internet-based distance methods. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. The position includes research and development work, as well as teaching and supervision within doctoral-level education in surgery. Administrative tasks and assignments within the department and the Faculty of Medicine are included. Leading personnel and operations is part of the role, as the lecturer is expected to lead their own research group. Leadership of personnel and activities in teaching as study director/course coordinator (or similar) may be included. The position is permanent and full-time. The duty station is Sunderbyn, but work at other locations may occur. The position as university lecturer is combined with employment as a specialist physician in surgery at Region Norrbotten, which entails clinical duties of up to 13 hours per week. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, applicants must demonstrate pedagogical aptitude and hold a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence. To be eligible for employment, applicants must have documented ability to teach in Swedish and English. If special circumstances apply, someone without the ability to teach in Swedish may be considered, but is then expected to acquire this ability within two years of employment. Since the position is combined with employment as a specialist physician, a medical license and specialist certificate in surgery are requirements for employment, and clinical competence is a qualification requirement. Additionally, applicants must have necessary language skills in Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian (according to the definition of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare). Applicants are expected to demonstrate a certain level of scientific independence and should be able to present a current research program of their own. Applicants are further expected to have completed higher education pedagogy training corresponding to 7.5 credits or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. If the applicant does not have this at the time of application, a pedagogical development plan must be established so that the knowledge can be acquired within two years of employment. To be eligible for employment, applicants must have documented experience in surgery research.
