The Design field is interdisciplinary, incorporating perspectives and methods from technical/natural sciences, social sciences/humanities, and artistic domains. As a University Lecturer in Design, you will teach at both undergraduate and advanced levels in Swedish and English, and supervise students in Linköping University's various design-oriented programs. Teaching focuses particularly on participatory design, service design, and interaction design. Your work includes course design and course responsibility. Design research encompasses a range of activities, from scientific investigations to experimentation, often in the form of innovative combinations driven by a conscious need to deepen understanding of what design is and how design could develop in the future. Design research is highly international and is therefore conducted in both Swedish and English. This position is located at the department https://liu.se/organisation/liu/ida/hcs and in the research group Interaction and Service Design (IxS). The research group conducts design research focused on services and interaction. Over the past 20 years, we have worked in various parts of the public sector, and for several years have been involved in knowledge development at the intersection of AI and design, as well as at the intersection of policy development and design. The department's research and teaching are focused on studying and improving interaction between individuals, computer systems, and information resources. Human beings and their capabilities are both a starting point and a goal. Important research areas include service design, human-computer interaction, knowledge engineering, language technology, geographic information systems, computer support for education/training, information management, technology adoption in organizations, and safety in complex systems. Linköping University is one of Sweden's leading design research and education universities, and is a world leader in service design research, among other areas. As an applicant, you are active in the research community, participate in departmental activities such as seminars and workshops, engage in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications, and contribute to attracting external research funding. You actively contribute to the university's development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university's research and education mission. Your qualifications We are looking for candidates with a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence, and who have demonstrated pedagogical skill, or other professional skill that is relevant given the subject matter and responsibilities of the position. For this position, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skill in the first instance, and other skills deemed equivalent will be considered secondarily. Regarding pedagogical skill, the following will be assessed: A requirement for the position is documented pedagogical skill, demonstrated through teaching and supervision in design at undergraduate and advanced levels. Particularly meriting for the position is pedagogical skill in the intersection of design and service contexts. Meriting for the position is completion of courses in higher education pedagogy, or acquisition of equivalent knowledge in other ways. Regarding scientific skill, the following will be assessed: A requirement for the position is documented scientific skill and documented experience in research within two of the following areas: -design in the form of participatory design, codesign, and/or design work -service in the form of service logic and/or service organization -human-computer interaction in the form of interaction design and/or UX Particularly meriting is having scientific skill in all three areas. Meriting for the position is: -having experience in successfully planning, applying for, and obtaining research funding from external sources. -having a research focus that strengthens and complements the research mentioned in the three areas above in combination with research in the department (see https://liu.se/en/organisation/liu/ida/hcs). Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these areas and attach a research plan for the first two years in relation to this with their application. -documented skill in collaboration within education and research. Other skills that will be assessed for this position are administrative skill, leadership ability, and/or technical skill. A requirement for the position is experience in practice-based research. Meriting for the position is: -documented experience of administrative skill, for example in leadership roles. -documented ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to communicate research and development to a broader public. Since teaching and/or research is conducted in both Swedish and English, you must demonstrate the ability to teach and/or conduct research in English, and it is desirable that you are able to teach and/or conduct research in Swedish within two years.
