Subject Description
The subject encompasses the development of resource-efficient and environmentally friendly technology for the supply and conversion of biomass to heat, electricity and fuel.
Duties
The holder shall within the subject of employment
develop and lead internationally outstanding research
develop, lead and participate in teaching at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level
mainly teach bioenergy in the engineering programs offered wholly or partly under SLU's auspices, but also in other educational activities at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level where the subject is included
supervise doctoral students
develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant authorities, industries, organizations and society at large
seek external research funding
contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLU
communicate research results and other relevant subject information to the surrounding society
carry out administrative tasks within the department, faculty and university
be able to teach in Swedish within four years
The Department has a parallel language working environment. The Associate Professor will be able to perform most of his/her tasks in English. As a public authority, the University has Swedish as its main language according to the requirements of the Language Act.
Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence
scientific proficiency in technology for the supply and conversion of biomass to heat, electricity and fuel
pedagogical proficiency and the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in teaching
good knowledge of English
Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation criteria for employment shall primarily be the degree of competence that is a requirement for eligibility for employment. The assessment of the eligible applicant's suitability for employment will primarily be based on:
research efforts undertaken and ongoing research in technology for the supply and conversion of biomass to heat, electricity and fuel
the ability to independently initiate and conduct outstanding research
the ability to obtain external research funding in competition
planning, implementation and examination, and evaluation of own teaching
supervision at doctoral level
the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in pedagogical work
pedagogical vision and reflection
Further consideration is given to proficiency in
developing and leading activities within academia
cooperating with external stakeholders and the surrounding society
communicating research and development work
It is particularly meritorious if the applicant has knowledge of Nordic energy systems. Good knowledge of Swedish or another Scandinavian language is also meritorious.
The assessment of pedagogical proficiency shall receive equal attention as the assessment of scientific proficiency. The position is offered to the eligible candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is deemed to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the current tasks and contribute to positive development of the activities.
