Learn more about us at: kau.se/jobb Description Within the field of risk and environmental studies, we offer a bachelor's program in environmental science with a focus on risk management, the master's program Risk Management in Society, several standalone courses and commissioned education, as well as doctoral education. Risk and Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary field with employees and international guests from many countries. Research is grounded in environmental science, public health science and risk management. The subject encompasses approximately 30 employees and focuses on society's need to systematically manage threats and risks that affect people's health, critical societal functions and the environment. Activities span risk analysis, preventive risk management and measures for sustainable development. A large part of the research is linked to research centers and is conducted in close collaboration with companies, organizations, municipalities, county administrative boards and state authorities. Duties We are looking for someone who can teach and conduct research in risk management, particularly with a focus on drought and its impacts on agriculture, forestry, water resources, etc. Duties include: Teaching and collaboration Research on water resources with a focus on drought and its effects on Swedish society. Participation in research and collaboration projects at the Center for Research on Societal Risks Active participation in international networks on drought. Coordinator for the Riscon26 conference To contribute to a good work environment and development of activities, you will be present and participate in daily work and community life within the subject area. Qualifications Eligible for this position is someone who holds a doctoral degree in risk and environmental studies, water resources management or related subject areas. Experience from research and research communication is required. For eligibility requirements, refer to Karlstad University's employment regulations https://www.kau.se/files/2026-03/9_26 Rev anst_llningsordning slutlig-signed_0_1.pdf Evaluation Criteria Of particular importance Strong knowledge of water resources, drought and its effects on Swedish society Experience conducting research and participating in research projects to be part of an already initiated/existing research project Experience coordinating research networks on water resources and drought Strong knowledge of research communication and experience working within the Center for Research on Societal Risks Personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, initiative, creativity with good communication abilities and ability to communicate clearly Strong knowledge of hydrology, GIS and programming in R and Python Of considerable importance Pedagogical skills Good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in Swedish and English Meritorious Experience collaborating with relevant societal actors and industry Terms The position is a fixed-term appointment for the period September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027, at 100% employment, with possibility of extension.
