The Swedish Customs Agency's Legal Department is responsible for legal governance and legal support within the agency.
The department is divided into four units: the Customs Law Unit, the Physical Control and Criminal Law Unit, the Information and Records Management Unit, and the General Administrative Law Unit. The department currently has approximately 60 employees, of which about 20 work in the Customs Law Unit. The department has staff in Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, and Luleå. The department is led by the agency's Chief Legal Counsel, and each unit has a unit manager.
The Customs Law Unit is responsible for legal governance and legal support in the areas of customs law and tax law. The unit also handles proceedings in administrative court when the agency's decisions on customs and taxes are appealed.

The EU's customs union is currently undergoing a comprehensive reform to facilitate legal global trade, improve customs collection, and prevent goods that do not meet established requirements from entering the EU. Work is underway on new EU legislation and changes to national laws, with new case law emerging. As a qualified legal counsel in the Customs Law Unit, you will play an important role in complex and highly relevant legal areas where you apply both national legislation and extensive EU regulations.
Your daily work will include legal analyses and opinions, as well as support through written legal investigations and oral advice to the operations. The position also involves writing remittance statements, participating in both national and international legislative work, reviewing regulations and other governance and support documents, and providing training within the unit's legal areas. The work also includes serving as a legal resource in the Customs Agency's extensive development activities. The work may also include participation in proceedings in administrative court.

Are You the One We're Looking For?
We are looking for someone who has:
Juris Doctor (JD) or law degree
Several years of current and relevant experience in qualified legal work
Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both written and spoken
It is meritorious if you have:
Experience working with customs law or work related to customs legislation or tax legislation
Experience from courts, the Government Offices, government agencies, or law firms
Experience with and interest in development work
Experience working with EU matters and good knowledge of EU decision-making processes and working methods
