Trainee Intensive Care Nurse, Vascular-Thoracic ICU (TIVA), USÖ

TIVA is a specialist intensive care unit that provides vascular-thoracic surgical intensive care 24/7. The patients we care for have often undergone heart, vascular, or lung surgery and are cared for by us postoperatively. Our acute patients may have suffered cardiac arrest, acute aortic dissection, or thoracic/vascular trauma. The intensive care environment is technology-intensive with monitoring equipment and medical devices such as CVVHD (dialysis), aortic balloon pump, and ECMO. TIVA is one of six centers in the country where ECMO care can be provided. Job Responsibilities As a trainee with us, we want to provide you with customized introduction to intensive care. Training takes place in different blocks, giving you good breadth from hands-on nursing care with an assistant nurse to advanced care with an experienced intensive care nurse. Clinical work alternates with internal training. After orientation, you work as part of the team together with assistant nurses, intensive care nurses, physicians, and physiotherapists. You will have excellent conditions to prepare for your upcoming specialist intensive care nurse studies. Qualifications You must be a licensed nurse and you should have a plan to start intensive care nursing education within 2 years from the start of employment. After completing your studies, continued service at TIVA as an intensive care nurse is expected. Further education to become an intensive care nurse is paid for by the Region. About the Operations The vascular-thoracic operations area encompasses three specialties: thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and thoracic anesthesia and intensive care. We provide highly specialized care in the form of heart and lung surgery, advanced vascular surgery with endovascular focus, arrhythmia surgery in various forms, and advanced intensive care including ECMO. Within the operations area, approximately 1,500 surgical procedures are performed each year. Our most important overarching goals are high quality and good accessibility with the patient in focus. Research and development have high priority and are conducted in several areas. The operations are characterized by forward-thinking, teamwork, and good collaboration. The operations area consists of an operating department, a ward with intermediate care beds, an intensive care unit, and an administrative unit. We are approximately 200 employees distributed among vascular surgeons, thoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, nurses (general, operating, anesthesia, and intensive care), assistant nurses, and medical care administrators.
