Description:

1 position(s). Would you like to work long-term, strategically, and close to operations on issues that shape how we develop mobility and the traffic system in harmony with our growing city? We are seeking a driven and motivated traffic strategist with experience in strategic development work. Västerås is a strong growth engine for our region. With new establishments, expanded rail traffic, a new travel center, and a growing population, we face high demands on how we plan for an accessible, efficient, and sustainable transportation system. Your Tasks As a traffic strategist, you will work with strategic traffic and mobility issues as an integrated part of urban development. You have a central role in developing how we plan for movement, accessibility, and sustainable travel throughout the municipality. A central part of the assignment initially is to lead the work on developing and establishing the municipality's overarching governing documents on mobility. This means you drive the process to anchor the plan and move it toward implementation. You work closely with our politicians on challenging issues related to accessibility, traffic flow, and sustainable mobility. The role requires you to analyze different perspectives, be clear in your recommendations, and simultaneously create understanding and progress in complex decision-making processes. You have strong initiative-taking ability, you enjoy driving projects and processes toward their goals, and you are interested in advocating for infrastructure issues both internally and externally. You participate in comprehensive planning and contribute to planning projects, sometimes also at the detailed planning stage. You conduct investigations, ranging from overarching analyses to more concrete traffic solutions. You contribute to how we work with different methods and processes in the field and you monitor the external environment and stay current in the area, translating new knowledge into practical benefit for us. You collaborate closely with your nearest colleagues in traffic, others in the department and in the administration, as well as with other parts of the city, municipal companies, and external stakeholders. You have an important role in translating political goals into implementable strategies and measures. The role involves handling complex trade-offs between, for example, growth, traffic flow, sustainability, and the city's attractiveness. A holistic perspective is always needed. Your Qualifications You have an academic degree in traffic planning, urban planning, or equivalent, as well as several years of experience working in urban planning. You have experience with development work and strategic planning with long-term perspectives. If you have previously developed governance documents on mobility, that is a plus. You have worked in a politically governed organization, which has given you an understanding and experience of navigating based on political direction. As a person, you find it easy to take initiative and achieve results, you have a broad perspective on issues, and you remain motivated even when facing opposition and setbacks along the way. What We Offer An opportunity to influence how Västerås develops, with a special focus on sustainable transport and future mobility. You will work in a context where urban development issues have clear strategic importance. You work together with competent and engaged colleagues in an organization characterized by collaboration, trust, and professionalism. Here you have the opportunity to develop in your role, while contributing to sustainable and long-term societal development. The Urban Development Unit consists of just over 15 people and is part of the City Executive Office.
