Tree Safety Manager with Environmental Focus About the CompanySwedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) is responsible for long-term planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of Sweden's transport system. Within the National Tree Program, Trafikverket works to strengthen operational safety along the railway network through tree safety measures, management of risk trees, and environmentally adapted measures in areas with special natural and cultural values. About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Tree Safety Manager with an environmental focus for the National Tree Program. The assignment involves working with environmental matters related to tree safety along Sweden's railways, with particular emphasis on areas where consultation, permits, and regulatory contacts are required. The role involves close collaboration with project management, authorities, municipalities, contractors, and other stakeholders. The assignment can be performed with up to 100 percent remote work for office hours by agreement with the client, but travel to meetings and field visits will occur. Role and ResponsibilitiesAct as a Tree Safety Manager with environmental focus within the National Tree Program. Develop agreements, consultation documents, permits, and applications to municipalities, county administrative boards, and other authorities. Develop working methods, templates, and procedures within the project. Assess measures in individual stands together with specialists prior to agreements, applications, and permits. Assist contractors in the management of stands where special consideration is required. Follow up on completed measures where special environmental consideration has been applied. Responsible for design and felling when necessary. Work as a Tree Safety Manager in stands where exemption is required for, for example, biotope protection or protected trees. Obtain required permits from authorities and municipalities, such as shoreline protection exemptions and consultation applications. Conduct consultations with municipalities and other stakeholders according to established work processes. Maintain contacts with property owners, authorities, and other affected parties. Participate in meetings with project management, authorities, and stakeholders both digitally, in-person, and in the field. Support project management in ongoing environmental matters. Contribute to knowledge transfer to Trafikverket staff within the scope of the assignment. Competency RequirementsNatural resources education with focus on forestry or equivalent forestry competence. Environmental science education of at least 120 credits or equivalent competence. Geoscience education of at least 40 credits or equivalent competence. Education in nature conservation biology of at least 40 credits or equivalent competence. Experience of having conducted at least one environmental impact assessment. At least 5 years of experience in handling and preparing: Notification of consultation according to Environmental Code 12:6. Notification of consultation according to Cultural Heritage Act 2:10. Exemption according to shoreline protection regulations. Exemption according to Environmental Code 7:28a. 7. Experience of having conducted at least 10 cases within the above areas. 8. Experience of reaching agreements with municipalities for measures within detailed planning areas. 9. Experience as environmental support in railway-related projects within investigation, planning, design, construction, and implementation. 10. Clearance BASÄVISTA, Individual access to tracks, or higher clearance. 11. At least 2 years of experience applying specific environmental consideration in tree safety work on railways. Value-Added RequirementsExperience of work in areas with high natural values, such as nature reserves, Natura 2000 areas, and biotope-protected environments. Experience of work with tree safety easements and strategic development of operational safety within the railway sector. Documented experience of collaboration with multiple authorities and stakeholder groups in complex environmental cases. Assignment InformationAssignment Period: January 4, 2027 to January 5, 2029. Option: Possibility of extension 2 + 2 years. Scope: 80-100% of full-time. Placement Location: Borlänge. Remote work possible up to 100% of office hours by agreement with the client.
