Ref: 20261842 We are seeking a head gardener with strong drive and a sense for both cultural heritage and development. Here you will be involved in leading, planning, and advancing our historic gardens together with a committed team. Job Responsibilities As a head gardener with primary placement at Katrinetorp Landeri, you hold a key role in preserving, developing, and bringing to life one of Malmö's most valuable historic garden environments. Together with your colleagues, you are responsible for the daily operations of the facility while driving long-term development work with a focus on quality, visitor experience, and cultural-historical values. You will help lead and allocate daily work on-site and serve as an active support for colleagues and interns. Through clarity, inclusion, and engagement, you create the conditions for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and shared responsibility for the facility's development. The role encompasses both operational gardening work, largely focused on vegetables and kitchen gardens, as well as activity planning, administration, and financial follow-up. You are responsible for orders, procurement, and resource planning, and actively contribute to developing work methods, ecological sustainability, cultivation techniques, and the facility's long-term management. The work involves periods of high workload and is physically demanding as many work tasks are performed in a traditional, hands-on manner. As part of your assignment, you are expected to contribute to the operation's educational role by guiding visitors, hosting study visits, participating in activities and events, and communicating about the gardens' history, plant material, and development. Qualifications The position requires: Vocational higher education (2 years) in park and garden management, or higher education of at least 180 credits in a relevant field, such as garden engineering, landscape engineering, cultural heritage, cultural history, or equivalent education that the employer deems equivalent. At least three years of professional experience including: practical work at a visitor facility, display garden, cultural-historical garden, or similar environment cultivation, maintenance, harvesting, composting, and ecological pest management handling of garden tools and garden machinery, including wheel loaders supervision of employees, interns, or students. Experience in maintenance, development, and preservation of cultural-historical gardens and parks. Good knowledge of cultural-historical vegetables, historical cultivation methods, and garden and park history. Good knowledge of soil improvement, soil health, composting, fertilization, and ecological plant protection, as well as experience with work according to ecological and sustainable cultivation principles. Good administrative ability and good knowledge of Office programs. Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written. Class B driver's license. It is advantageous if you have: Experience planning, designing, and reconstructing cultural-historical garden and park environments based on historical sources. Knowledge and experience in floral arranging, floristry work, and plant creations. Experience conducting tours, study visits, or other public activities within park and garden operations. Experience communicating in English using specialized gardening terminology. Operator's license for wheel loaders. You have good pedagogical ability and the desire to pass on your knowledge, are proactive, and inspire others to create garden environments of the highest quality together. You are relationship-oriented and comfortable meeting visitors and speaking to groups. About the Workplace Katrinetorp Landeri is one of the country's best-preserved Empire-period facilities with historic gardens and an adjoining English landscape park. Visitors here are offered a living cultural environment with a broad program of events, markets, concerts, and tours. The restaurant uses produce from its own gardens, and the farm shop offers crafts, plants, and local products. Here recreation, learning, and cultural heritage meet in an environment that is constantly developing while always valuing its history. The Visitor Facilities Unit is part of the City Life Department and consists, depending on season, of 25-45 employees with great variation in skills who are responsible for maintaining, developing, and activating some of Malmö's most appreciated visitor destinations – Slottsträdgården, Torup Castle and castle park, Katrinetorp Landeri with park and gardens, and the ice breaker Bore.
