This is a profession for you who likes to stay on top of things and where no two days are the same. You work on-site at the traffic control center together with experienced colleagues with the common goal of ensuring that both freight and passengers arrive safely and on time. For us to succeed, collaboration, community, and team spirit are extremely important. The work is performed via computer and telephone, and your decisions affect thousands of travelers every day. Working as a train traffic controller involves, among other things: Directing and monitoring railway traffic in real time, around the clock, every day of the year. Handling disruptions and delays, prioritizing and making decisions that affect railway traffic. Following regulations and safety procedures for safe railway traffic. Collaborating with colleagues at the traffic control center, customers, train drivers, and emergency personnel. Working shifts according to a rotating schedule. Qualifications What is required to become a train traffic controller? This role suits you if you have good analytical skills and approach problems in a structured and solution-oriented way. As a person, you are stable and easily adjust your pace when things happen. You remain calm and make independent, well-founded decisions even in pressured situations. You have high safety awareness, are thorough, take responsibility for your tasks and your learning. You are a team player who communicates clearly and values collaboration. Your ability to put theory into practice is crucial for successfully completing the basic training. To become a train traffic controller, you must: Have studied at upper secondary school or have equivalent knowledge from other studies (e.g., folk high school, adult education programs, vocational training). Have good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish. Be able and willing to work shifts (day, evening, night, weekends, and public holidays). It is an advantage but not a requirement if you have: Experience working in fast-paced environments. Experience in a role where it was important to follow procedures and regulations. Experience in work where safety has been a focus. Experience in work where you communicate verbally via telephone and digitally via computer. Other Information Shift Work All train traffic controllers work alternating day, evening, night, weekends, and public holidays according to a rotating schedule. It's important that you consider your ability to work shifts before submitting your application. Basic Training and Apprenticeship Employment You will be employed as an apprentice with apprentice salary (approximately 25,000 - 28,000 kr per month) and will undergo approximately one year of paid training starting in week 2 of January 2027. The training consists of 5-7 weeks of theoretical courses at the Traffic School in Ängelholm plus practical training at your traffic control center. After passing the exam, you will be offered permanent employment with individual salary setting. Recruitment day, which includes among other things work tests and work-related exercises, will be held in Stockholm in weeks 37-38. Individual psychological assessment will be conducted digitally in weeks 39-40. Final interviews are planned to be held in Stockholm in weeks 39-41. Train traffic controller is a safety-critical role, and to be able to be employed, you must meet certain security and health requirements.
