About the Workplace LUNARC is the center for high-performance computing (HPC), visualization, and storage at Lund University. We provide advanced computational and data services to researchers across all of the university's faculties, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, economics, humanities, and social sciences. In all these areas, the demand for GPU resources for AI has increased significantly in recent years. We operate modern HPC clusters, visualization resources, and advanced storage systems, and continuously develop new services for interactive and data-driven research. Our environment encompasses both traditional HPC infrastructure and modern platforms for container-based and cloud-native workflows. We work closely with research environments such as MAX IV and with national and international research infrastructures. LUNARC is also part of the national infrastructure NAISS (National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden). Job Responsibilities We are now seeking a systems engineer who wants to help develop the next generation of high-performance research infrastructure for computing, visualization, and storage. This role is ideal if you have a strong Linux and infrastructure background and thrive at the intersection of HPC, DevOps, and modern platform operations. You will work both operationally and developmentally in close collaboration with your team. You also enjoy working closely with users and helping researchers get the best possible support in using LUNARC's resources. Job duties vary between operational maintenance, development of new services, and close collaboration with researchers and users. The role encompasses both daily infrastructure work and long-term development of LUNARC's technical platforms. Examples of work tasks include: Operation and development of Linux-based HPC and research infrastructure Automation, configuration management, and development of internal services Operation and further development of container and virtualization platforms Monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization Management of storage and network infrastructure User support for researchers and research projects Installation and optimization of scientific software Participation in development projects for new services and infrastructures Monitoring and evaluation of new technology in HPC, AI, and cloud infrastructure The work is conducted in close collaboration with researchers, developers, and other infrastructure experts. Qualifications You do not need extensive prior HPC experience, but you should have experience with Linux-based infrastructures, automation, or modern platform operations, as well as a willingness to develop your skills in HPC and research infrastructure. Requirements for Employment Experience administering Linux-based systems Experience operating Linux-based infrastructures, preferably HPC environments or other large distributed systems Strong knowledge of network architecture Strong knowledge of scripting and automation (e.g., Python or Bash) Strong interest in further developing expertise in this field Excellent collaboration and communication skills Ability to work independently and in an organized manner Excellent English in both spoken and written form Meritorious Experience HPC environments and job schedulers such as SLURM Container technologies and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Apptainer/Singularity) DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code, and configuration management (e.g., Ansible) Experience working in agile development or operations environments Cloud infrastructure and virtualization Experience with Git, code review, and CI/CD processes Experience with collaboration and development platforms such as GitLab and CI/CD workflows Distributed storage systems and parallel file systems such as IBM Storage Scale (GPFS) High-performance networking, such as InfiniBand GPU-based systems and AI/ML infrastructure Installation and optimization of scientific software Experience working in research infrastructure or academic environments Consideration will also be given to how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen the organization's existing competence profile.
