At Metstech, we develop electrical and automation solutions for the marine industry. We work with electrification, hybrid propulsion, energy storage, charging, and automation. Often, these are projects where multiple technical systems need to work together onboard a vessel. We're now looking for a System Software & Automation Specialist who wants to take a central role in our technical development. You'll be an important part of developing our automation platform and creating more standardized and reusable solutions. This is a role for someone with broad technical understanding and deep expertise in automation and system software, who sees how software connects with the hardware around it. What matters is that you're curious, structured, and can quickly master new technical areas. Key Responsibilities As a System Software & Automation Specialist, you'll have broad technical responsibility and work across multiple projects. You'll: Own technical solutions within control systems, software, communication, and integration Solve complex technical problems from development and testing through commissioning and operation Develop generic and reusable software and further develop our automation platform Own the development model and the chain from requirements to functionality, testing, and documentation Drive the use of AI in engineering work and contribute technical expertise in tender work Own the architecture of how hardware and software connect, and develop standardized solutions for control systems, I/O, networks, and instrumentation Raise your colleagues' technical level through documentation, reviews, and mentorship You'll work across multiple projects and report to the CTO. The role is primarily focused on developing and improving our technical solutions. When projects require it, you'll also follow solutions through to real-world implementation. We're looking for someone with an engineering background in, for example, electrical engineering, automation, systems technology, or computer science. You may also have equivalent knowledge from professional experience. We believe you have: Deep practical expertise in automation and/or system software Experience with control systems, communication, and integration, and the ability to understand how different parts of a complex system fit together Good understanding of the hardware in automation and electrical systems: control systems, I/O, industrial networks, and instrumentation The ability to independently solve complex technical problems and develop solutions that are generic and reusable Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written What's most important is that you have a strong technical foundation, are curious, and have the ability to quickly master new technical areas. You don't need to know everything from the start – but you need to be able to take responsibility for finding solutions. A driver's license is an advantage but not a requirement. More About the Position and Recruitment Process The position is based in Uddevalla, where you'll work close to the CTO and other technical specialists. You'll have the opportunity to manage your own time and sometimes work remotely. Travel is a minor part of the role and is mainly needed for commissioning onboard and at quay facilities. This involves limited travel within Sweden and occasional trips within Europe. We work on assignments that require security clearance.
