About the Position
We are recruiting an Academic and Career Advisor for the Faculty of Learning and Society, for a permanent position with a 6-month probation period.
Content and Responsibilities
As an Academic and Career Advisor at the Faculty of Learning and Society, your main responsibilities will be to provide excellent service, support, and guidance to both prospective and current students regarding matters related to studies, working life, and career development. The work focuses primarily on one-on-one academic and career counseling and occasional classroom-based guidance. You will actively support students in choosing their studies, inform about entrance requirements, and highlight the differences between various teacher education programs. You will also participate in welcoming new students to the Faculty of Learning and Society. For current students, the role involves providing guidance and support throughout their studies with the goal of successful completion. This may also include advising on course selection or changes to study arrangements. The position includes staying updated on relevant information and regulations, providing correct information, and planning studies.
Our core activities consist of guidance and information provided both digitally and in person through scheduled meetings, email, phone consultations, and drop-in sessions. Work at Malmö University takes place in a dynamic international environment. Both counseling conversations and oral and written communication must therefore be handled in both Swedish and English.
Qualifications
This position specifically requires:
- Education in academic and career guidance
- Several years of professional experience in academic and career guidance
- Very good proficiency in Swedish and English (spoken and written)
- Very good knowledge of admission requirements for higher education
- Very good knowledge of counseling methods and a strong interest in counseling conversations
Particularly meriting experience for this position:
- Experience with academic and career guidance at a university or college
Workplace
The position is located at Student Center and the unit for Studies and Career. Student Center is part of Malmö University's common operational support and is organized into five units: in addition to the Studies and Career unit, it also includes the International Office, Student Health Services, Pedagogical Support, and the Academic Administration unit.
The unit has overall coordinating responsibility for guidance work at Malmö University. The work team of 23 people has assignments within operational support at the faculty and in the common operations.
This position focuses on academic and career guidance at the Faculty of Learning and Society.
The Faculty, with approximately 7,500 students and 320 employees, is organized into six departments. The Faculty of Learning and Society offers professional education in the fields of school, culture, leisure, and sports. The Faculty runs one of Sweden's largest teacher education programs and offers students the choice of four degrees: preschool teacher, elementary school teacher, upper secondary school teacher, or vocational teacher. The Faculty of Learning and Society is characterized by innovative approaches to curriculum design and collaboration with school principals, municipalities, organizations, and the business sector.
The Faculty educates, among others, sports scientists, historians, teachers, special educators, specialist teachers, and academic and career advisors. Master's and doctoral programs, individual courses, continuing education, and commissioned training are some of the Faculty's additional educational offerings.
