The Disability Services department in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource in proximity and collaboration that releases and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life. Regular housing is organized within Disability Services and includes short-term supervision, short-term housing, respite services, home care, and a National Upper Secondary School for children and young adults. We offer daily activities/employment, housing support, and dependency resource teams for adults over 18 years of age. Byttgränds Short-term Housing is located at Ersboda and serves children and young adults with disabilities based on decisions under the LSS (Act Concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments). We provide a relief function for relatives, contributing to a sustainable and long-term support structure for both the individual and family. With us, the individual's needs and circumstances are at the center, and we offer a safe, stimulating, and developmental environment. Near the facility are playgrounds, forest areas, and a library, enabling varied leisure activities and outdoor time. We now need to expand our team with a Support Educator! Your Tasks As a member of our team, you will be part of a work group that together supports individuals' ability to live as independently and meaningfully as possible. You contribute to a stimulating and safe environment and actively participate in the children's and young people's daily life, which may include play, crafts, outdoor activities, and games. You provide support in daily routines such as meals, cleaning, laundry, and personal care. We work using an individually tailored approach based on evidence-based methods within autism and intellectual disabilities. Another important part of the work is collaboration and communication with guardians. The work also involves documenting, writing records, creating implementation plans, and handling medications. You are also responsible for administrative tasks, such as planning activities, scheduling individuals based on approved services, and preparing staffing requirements used in team scheduling. As a Support Educator, you work on continuous improvements within quality perspectives regarding pedagogical methods and communication, documentation, and introduction of new colleagues to the operations. You guide colleagues in pedagogical methods that are proven and recommended by the National Board of Health and Welfare. Your approach is characterized by flexibility, continuity, and security. You will both work with practical interventions and guide other staff toward pedagogical solutions to challenges in user-centered work by applying various pedagogical methods. As a Support Educator, you are part of a network with other Support Educators where we offer continuous peer support and professional development. Disruptive behavior and heavy lifting occur in the workplace. Work hours are scheduled for day, evening, night shifts, and weekend duty is scheduled for 4 of 8 weekends. Joint planning occurs between our operations within Disability Services. About You We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference for our target group and who has strong pedagogical abilities. You have great commitment and a desire to help develop the operations. You are attentive, flexible, solution-focused, and have good communication skills as well as the ability to cooperate with all roles you encounter in your daily work. Personal suitability is weighted heavily. To enable you to communicate with users, colleagues, and other networks, write and access care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing. Requirements Post-secondary education in the form of at least 200 vocational school credits, Support Educator, or other equivalent vocational college education. Alternatively, 60 higher education credits in relevant courses within disability services. Programs and/or courses with clear focus on working with intellectual, cognitive, or mental disabilities. For example, within: - Ethical approaches - Pedagogical theories and methods - Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) - Cognitive support - Coaching approach Several years of experience working with people with disabilities or other work experience that we find equivalent. Meritorious Experience with low-arousal approach (LAB), alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), and motivational interviewing (MI).
