A support family is a way for parents of children with disabilities to receive respite care. It is also an opportunity for these children to experience a change of environment and develop a social network outside their family. No special education is required to become a support family, but you need to have a strong commitment to helping others and live in a stable social situation.
We are now seeking a support family every other weekend for an active and curious 7-year-old girl who loves animals and nature, swimming, and going on outings.
What kind of family are we looking for?
As a support family, it is important that you have a stable daily routine. The assignment is primarily about creating a safe and trusting relationship, offering structure in a pressure-free manner, showing interest, listening attentively and responding with empathy, being calm, demonstrating patience, and being flexible.
We are looking for families without young children at home – it is important that you have the time. That said, it's great if you've kept your childlike spirit, and if you have pets in the family, that's a big plus.
It is an advantage if you have knowledge and experience with autism and neuropsychiatric conditions (NPF), and know how to use low-emotional-intensity interaction methods.
Ideally, you live in Karlshamn or the surrounding area.
