Support Assistants at Oxholmsgatan 28 Residential Home for Children
Job Duties Oxholmsgatan is a newly opened facility that started in August of the previous year and is located centrally at Torslanda Torg. We are now seeking you to help shape our operations together with us to provide the best possible support to the young people living here. Oxholmsgatan specializes in autism spectrum, intellectual disabilities and/or other neuropsychiatric diagnoses. The residence accommodates children or young people who need a smaller setting with a calm environment to function well. Your main task as a support assistant is to offer individualized educational support that contributes to a meaningful, independent, and developmental life in accordance with LSS (Act Concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments). You provide the child with individually tailored support in daily activities; from personal care and home life to accompanying them on activities and outings. Communication and cognitive support are areas we actively work with, and we consistently use proven pedagogical methods such as clarifying pedagogy, low-affect interaction, and alternative augmentative communication to create understanding and predictability. Working with low-affect interaction means we take responsibility for the situation by evaluating what happened and what may have caused the event, so that together we can find solutions moving forward. We want the residents of Oxholmsgatan to feel a sense of success in every interaction with us. Under the leadership of the unit manager and two support pedagogues, together with colleagues and other people in the child's network, you work to develop methods, routines, and structure for the work with the residents to provide each individual with the best conditions for participation. At Oxholmsgatan, you will be part of a team with both support assistants and support pedagogues, where through working together in good collaboration and with open communication, you contribute to providing each individual with the best possible support. You will work days, evenings, and weekends according to schedule. Qualifications We are seeking you with a degree from a Care and Nursing Program, support assistant training, or Child and Recreation Program with a focus on social or pedagogical work. The educational requirement is also met if you have post-secondary specialization in the disability support field comprising at least 200 vocational credits, 120 higher education credits, or a combination thereof equivalent to at least four semesters of full-time studies. It is a requirement that you have previous experience working with clarifying pedagogy, LAB (low-affect interaction), and various forms of AAC (alternative and augmentative communication). You also need to have previous experience working with challenging behavior. You need basic IT skills, and it is also important that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing. If you do not meet the Swedish language qualification requirements, you may be offered to take a language test through the test provider Educateit. It is meritorious if you have a B-level driving license and previous experience working with children with disabilities. We are seeking someone who is friendly and helpful toward others, even in stressful situations. You show respect for everyone you meet at work. You are welcoming and positive. You work to ensure that the student/client/user gets what that person needs. We also see that you bring new ideas and perspectives to work and to problem-solving. You are curious and encourage dialogue and questions, and you can see more than one possible solution. Your creativity can be put into practice and leads to results. At the same time, you are calm and confident in pressured and difficult situations. You can balance the demands placed on you and can make well-founded decisions despite time pressure.
