Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is one of Europe's strongest research centers in experimental plant biology. Staff Scientist Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is one of Europe's strongest research environments for fundamental plant research including research on plant ecology, genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, and physiology (see www.upsc.se). To the Department of Physiological Botany, which is part of Umeå Plant Science Center, we are now seeking a staff scientist. The position is full-time and fixed-term for 12 months with start date 21 August 2026 or by agreement. Project Description This physiological project focuses on metabolite and resource flows in poplar. It is still unknown how the plant controls the allocation of resources from photosynthesis. The goal of the project is to understand how the plant regulates the supply of resources to cell wall synthesis. In the long term, we hope that this understanding can give us tools to control cell wall synthesis in order to improve future forest raw materials. Duties You will participate in a large research project concerning flow analysis in poplar. The work includes metabolic analysis of poplar samples, metabolic modeling, and gas flow analysis. Qualifications A doctoral degree in plant physiology, plant biochemistry, or equivalent is required. Extensive experience with metabolic analysis, metabolic flux analysis, and chlorophyll a fluorescence analysis is required. For the position, it is required that you are motivated, goal-oriented, and have good critical thinking skills. You must also have good collaboration skills with other members of a research team. For the position, very good knowledge of English is also required, both spoken and written.
