Chief of Staff, Coordinated Support Operations Area

Operations Area Mission As of March 1, 2026, the Swedish Public Employment Service has two operations areas that meet job seekers and employers: Operations Area Initial Support and Operations Area Coordinated Support. Operations Area Coordinated Support has overall responsibility for providing coordinated support to job seekers with significant support needs and employers who are open to expanded recruitment. In addition to responsibility for operational delivery of employment service, the operations area is responsible for close collaboration with other actors, both locally and regionally. The operations area has approximately 6,000 employees throughout Sweden. Chief of Staff Mission and Responsibilities In the role of Chief of Staff, you will lead the staff's work and have overall operational, budget, and personnel responsibility. The staff is responsible for supporting the Operations Area Director in directing, leading, and monitoring the operations area. Together with staff members, you will establish systematic approaches to ensure efficient operational planning and monitoring. The staff is responsible for coordinating the operations area's processes for operational planning, monitoring, budgeting, risk management, internal governance and control, and the operations area's responsibilities in the annual report. The staff works to plan, administer, and coordinate the management group's work, and to monitor and coordinate internal referrals and communications that come to the operations area. The staff also coordinates and supports the operations area's strategic communication. As Chief of Staff, you will be part of the operations area's management group and will jointly share responsibility with the Director and other department heads for the entire operations area's results, development, and continued renewal. The role requires good cooperation and work takes place in partnership both within and outside the operations area, as well as in good collaboration with union representatives and the principal safety representative. As Chief of Staff, you will ensure leadership in line with the Swedish Public Employment Service's leadership criteria, with focus on accountability, decisiveness, and results orientation. You also contribute to developing a culture characterized by trust, openness, and security. Our Offer The position is a permanent full-time employment that may begin with a six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement. Work location: by agreement. Business travel will occur as staff will be located in multiple places throughout the country. Additionally, the Operations Area Director is based in Stockholm, so regular presence at the headquarters in Solna will be necessary. More about working with us Required Qualifications At least three years of current experience as a manager with operational, budget, and personnel responsibility University or college education with a social science focus of at least 180 credits/120 points, or equivalent education that the employer deems equivalent Experience leading operational and strategic staff or administrative operations that continuously provide support to management in a large organization Experience working in a government agency or within the Government Offices of Sweden Solid experience working with strategic issues and long-term change management in a complex operation Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish Additional Qualifications for the Position Experience developing monitoring and analyses as a basis for operational development Experience working with collaboration both within and outside your own organization Experience working in a management group Experience operating in complex matrix-like organizations and yourself leading cross-functional operations Beyond this, you have personal ability and aptitude to work in accordance with the Swedish Public Employment Service's leadership criteria.
