DUTIES
As a special education teacher at BUH, your work will focus on younger children with neurosomatosensory and neuropsychiatric disabilities such as mobility impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism, or multiple disabilities. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team around the child where your special education expertise provides the pedagogical component of the intervention.
At the unit, you have two experienced special education teacher colleagues, which enables close collegial exchange, supervision, and mentorship. Together you hold regular professional meetings where you address professional matters.
Your duties consist of preschool and school observations, assessments for evaluations, and interventions providing support to the child's network regarding interaction during play, social engagement, and communication. Interventions can take place in the child's home, preschool/school, or at BUH. The special education teacher works to create good conditions for the child's learning and skill development through pedagogical methods and assistive devices as well as through group treatment and training for the child's network. Interventions are designed and planned based on each child's specific needs, goals, and circumstances.
As a special education teacher at BUH, you are the team's pedagogical voice. All staff work toward the child's participation in their rehabilitation, but as a special education teacher you have an additional responsibility to help your colleagues understand how to include the child considering their specific circumstances. Together with your colleagues, you ensure that decisions concerning the child are made in the child's best interest.
