Fornbackaskolan is a two-parallel F-6 school with approximately 320 students and 80 staff members. We are a primary school and an adapted primary school, which also includes a department for students with mobility impairments. The school also has its own special education group and a municipality-wide special education group. Fornbackaskolan is a multicultural school located in the middle of a residential area where most of our students live. At Fornbackaskolan, we work based on a language and knowledge development approach. The importance of communication and interaction is central here. Teachers use cooperative support structures to encourage students to communicate and use language actively. The focus is also on strengthening students' reading ability through systematic practice in decoding and language comprehension. We actively work to increase students' vocabulary by introducing new words in meaningful contexts and providing students with opportunities to use the words in conversation exercises or self-produced texts. With the help of an accessible learning environment, we ensure that all students have a positive learning experience and have the opportunity to reach their full potential. In the classrooms, there is access to interactive boards and tablets. All tablets are equipped with programs available in Skolon, the municipality's common digital platform. At Fornbackaskolan, we strive to maintain good working peace in all learning environments and ensure that all students feel seen. Through our democratic mission, we strive to promote a school climate where all children and students feel safe and respected. The school's atmosphere is perceived as calm and welcoming. The school's well-established traditions are part of the sense of security that exists in the school. We strive to make our outdoor environment appealing. We believe in active recess where students and staff have the opportunity to socialize in different ways, where playfulness and creativity are central. We participate in the well-being program, which is a program for activity and inclusion, where friendly and respectful well-being leaders in grades 3–6 create opportunities for increased activity during recess.
