Ekeskolan is located in Örebro and teaches students with visual impairments and additional disabilities from preschool class through grade 10. Teaching should provide good conditions for students' development and learning as well as improved academic outcomes. Our staff work extensively with form and sensory experiences for all senses. We offer residential accommodations for students who cannot commute to school daily. 1 position(s). WORK DUTIES We are seeking a special education teacher/teacher for instruction in sign language/spoken Swedish according to special school and adapted primary school curricula. The majority of instruction takes place in sign language/tactile sign language. Teaching is planned, implemented, and evaluated in the five subject areas found in the adapted primary school curriculum. Much of the instruction occurs at the individual level with an educational assistant. Outdoor experiences and activities both in the local area and at other locations in Örebro County are regular components of the teaching. Instruction in adapted primary school subjects may also occur, in that case in spoken Swedish. Through your pedagogical work, you will support our students with severe visual impairments combined with additional disabilities in achieving their goals. Teaching, environment, and communication are adapted to each student's needs. As a special education teacher/teacher with us, you will work with instruction, pedagogical assessment, documentation, adaptation of learning environments, follow-up, and evaluation. You will be part of a teaching team and will plan and teach students in collaboration with teaching colleagues and educational assistants. The role includes mentorship for student(s). Work with us requires close collaboration with educational assistants, students' guardians, other colleagues, and other external actors important to students' health and development. You will also have support from a special education specialist, IT pedagogue, counselor, psychologist, school nurse, and physiotherapist. QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking someone who has: • Teaching certification to teach in special school/adapted primary school • Basic knowledge of child development and various disabilities • If a student needs instruction in sign language, you must be able to teach in both sign language and spoken Swedish • Tactile sign language • Basic IT skills It is advantageous if you have: • Experience teaching students who both need and do not need sign language to participate in instruction • Experience working with students with severe visual impairments combined with other disabilities • Knowledge/experience in neurodevelopmental disorders (NPF) • Knowledge/experience with the International Child Development Programme (ICDP) • Knowledge/experience working with students with congenital deafblindness Personal Qualities: As staff at Ekeskolan, you are expected to participate in the planning, implementation, and development of the school's activities. Duration: 6 months or longer, start date: August 10, 2026 or by agreement, end date: August 8, 2027. Special fixed-term employment for the 2026/27 school year.
