Business Description The Social Services Department in Gällivare Municipality is responsible for social services and municipal health and medical care. The department is undergoing comprehensive transformation with a focus on quality, follow-up, workforce development, and improved work methods in line with the new Social Services Act. We are now seeking a social worker for our school social team—an initiative where schools and social services work together to strengthen children's opportunities to succeed in school and in life. You will be organizationally placed within social services, with your immediate manager being the Department Head for Children and Youth. Your primary workplace will be in the school environment, where you will work closely with school staff, student health services, and guardians. You will be part of close collaboration between social services and schools. With us, you will have the opportunity to work in an exciting school social team while enjoying the security of a permanent position within Children and Youth services. The project runs through December 31, 2026, and we of course hope for continuation, but regardless of the project's future, you will have a permanent position as a social worker within the department. Job Duties The assignment involves building trust, creating presence, and contributing to security in daily life. You are organizationally placed within social services but have your primary workplace in the school environment, where you work closely with school staff, student health services, and guardians. In this role, you work in a preventive and relationship-building manner. You meet children and families in their everyday lives, pick up on signals early, and provide support before difficulties deepen. The work involves close collaboration between multiple stakeholders and requires both structure and flexibility. You will: - Collaborate with guardians, schools, student health services, and other stakeholders - Identify children and students in need of support at an early stage - Provide advice, support, and short-term interventions to children and families - Work to increase school attendance and break negative developmental patterns - Participate in and lead collaboration meetings - Work systematically with mapping, planning, and follow-up - Contribute to developing work methods and practices within the team Interventions occur at both individual and group levels, always with the child's best interests in focus. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a social work degree and experience in social work, preferably within the children and youth sector. You have good knowledge of social services' mission and legislation and enjoy collaborating with other professions. Experience with preventive work or school-based social work is advantageous. As a person, you are secure and relationship-building. You have the ability to build trust when meeting children and guardians and are both attentive and clear in your communication. You work systematically but are flexible when the situation requires it, and you actively contribute to both your own work and team development. You have excellent communication skills in both speech and writing and enjoy collaborating with managers, colleagues, and political representatives. Great weight is placed on personal suitability. Within the scope of the national minority language law, Gällivare Municipality is an administrative municipality for Sámi, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is advantageous when applying for employment in Gällivare Municipality. A criminal record extract must be presented prior to employment. Class B driver's license is required.
