Workplace Description Farsta Elementary School Adolf Fredriks Music Classes is a centrally located school at Farsta Center. The school is in an exciting and expansive period. Farsta Elementary School has students from the area in grades F-9 as well as students in music classes grades 4-9. We now have approximately 1000 students and maintain a high staff-to-student ratio. The school is newly renovated with modern technology and a strong sense of optimism about the future. We are now seeking an engaged school counselor who wants to become an important part of our student wellness team. As a school counselor, you are the school's psychosocial expertise and a central part of the student wellness team's health promotion, prevention, and intervention work. You work at the individual, group, and organizational levels with a focus on strengthening students' health, development, and opportunities for learning. The position includes both direct work with students and close collaboration with guardians, school staff, and external partners. Through supervision and consultation, you contribute important support to school staff on psychosocial matters. Work Tasks In your role as school counselor, you will, among other things: conduct social investigations and assessments offer supportive conversations with students, both individually and in groups, and work with classes document work regarding individual students hold conversations with guardians and participate in network meetings work to promote attendance at both strategic and operational levels provide supervision and consultative support to school staff on psychosocial matters participate in developing, implementing, and following up on action plans within values-based work and work against bullying and other abusive treatment work with crisis management and conflict resolution together with the student wellness team, develop the school's learning environment and work environment from a student wellness perspective collaborate with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP), rehabilitation services, leisure activities, and police when needed. About the Position The work is shared between two school counselors. In this position, you are responsible for students in grades F–6 and are part of the student wellness team for lower and middle grades. You work closely with school leadership, special education teachers, school nurse, psychologist, and other staff to create a safe and health-promoting school environment where students can develop and reach their full potential. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Work (210 credits) At least five years of experience working as a school counselor. School counselor work requires the ability to handle multiple perspectives in both direct student work and indirect prevention work. This requires a broad range of work methods and deep knowledge of children and young people and their development and their situation in society. This means deep knowledge of behavioral and social sciences, social legislation, and social treatment work. Knowledge of the legislation governing school operations and confidentiality laws is also important. Furthermore, broad and continuously updated knowledge of the external environment is required. The school counselor must independently take responsibility for their own professional work. The school has no management within the profession. This means that the counselor, based on a dialogue with the principal where work areas are prioritized, leads and organizes their own work. This provides great freedom of action but also requires good judgment. It also requires the school counselor to take responsibility for maintaining and deepening their professional competence and knowledge of the external environment. We are looking for a confident and relationship-building person who has a genuine interest in the development of children and young people.
