JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a school counselor, you are part of the central student health services, which also includes psychologists, special education teachers, school doctors, and school nurses. You work primarily in a preventive and health-promoting manner to support students' development toward the goals of education. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you contribute with your specific expertise and knowledge. The position includes actively working on prevention against drugs and all types of harassment and bullying, and when needed, supporting the principal/assistant principal in investigating and addressing issues.
As a school counselor, you work with, among other things:
*Participate in student health work and health-promoting and preventive work where you are part of the local student health services.
*Conduct professional conversations such as support, motivation, crisis, and conflict discussions.
*Conduct investigative, advisory, and therapeutic conversations with individual students and their families.
*Advocate for students in need of special support.
*Initiate and participate in network work around students.
*Investigate and assess school social situations for individual students and for the school as a whole.
*Support groups and acute needs.
*Provide guidance and consultation to school staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
You who are applying for this position must have completed a degree in social work and have at least two years of experience working as a social worker. It is important that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language and can express yourself well in speech and writing. If you have knowledge of other languages, that is a merit.
This role requires that you have a Category B driver's license.
Merits for the position:
Experience using ProRenata and various support systems such as record-keeping systems.
Experience working with children and young people or in the school environment.
Knowledge of social services' preventive and authority-exercising activities.
Experience with network work.
Experience working from a systems-theoretical and salutogenic perspective.
The school counselor role involves a significant degree of independent work and requires that you are confident, courageous, and self-driven. You are used to flexibly managing your workday based on priorities and needs. You have a very well-developed ability to create and maintain good relationships—both internally and externally—and you collaborate well with people in different contexts and functions. You actively take initiative in social settings and have an ability to build lasting trust in your professional relationships. Otherwise, you have an unpretentious approach to collaboration with colleagues, citizens, and other stakeholders, and an ability to distinguish between the issue and the person.
In accordance with Gävle Municipality's core values, you have good conduct, a good ability to collaborate, and you uphold high quality in your work.
To be eligible for the position, you must be able to provide a police certificate of good conduct for work in schools or preschools.
