The Learning and Health Division of the Children and Youth Department in Karlstad Municipality is tasked with supporting children's and students' development toward educational goals by assisting preschools and schools in promoting children's and students' health, development, and learning. Description Karlstad Municipality continues to develop its school library services and is now seeking an additional school librarian for our operations. In Karlstad Municipality, schools are divided into several principal leadership areas that function as geographic clusters. Together with other school librarians, you will be part of a network that works to develop the municipality's school library services. The role is part of a central part of the organization: Learning and Health, which is a support function. Learning and Health works with health-promoting and preventive efforts and investigations regarding special support. Reading gives students access to knowledge, information, and new perspectives. It strengthens the ability to think critically and independently, both in learning and as active citizens. Through literature, imagination, creativity, and understanding of others' experiences and living conditions develop. Books open doors to new worlds, times, and ways of thinking. We want all students to experience the joy of reading and discover the power and possibilities that literature offers. Reading promotion efforts in schools, such as offering good books and having an inspiring school librarian, are crucial. An engaged person who sparks curiosity and desire to read can make a big difference in getting students to discover the value of literature, the joy of reading, and development in their learning. Responsibilities As a school librarian with us, you have an important role in developing students' reading enthusiasm, language skills, and information literacy. You are responsible for organizing, developing, and making available an inspiring school library that supports students' learning and is a natural part of the school's operations. You actively work with reading promotion efforts and use your knowledge of children's and young adult literature to inspire students to read. In close collaboration with the school's educators, you plan and implement initiatives that strengthen students' reading comprehension and media and information literacy. You also support students in searching for, evaluating, and using information in a source-critical manner. Digital resources are a natural part of the task, and you use digital tools and media to promote reading and learning. You are also responsible for the library's media collection through purchasing, weeding, and developing collections based on students' different needs, experiences, and language levels. Together with school librarian colleagues, school leadership, and educators, you contribute to developing school library services and strengthening the library's role as an active resource in students' education. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a degree in Library and Information Science or other relevant higher education that the employer deems equivalent, such as teacher education with expertise in reading promotion work. You have experience working with children and young people and feel comfortable meeting both individual students and groups. Through your commitment and communication skills, you inspire students to read, learn, and be curious. To succeed in the role, you are proactive and have the ability to plan, implement, and develop reading promotion activities and projects. You work independently, take responsibility for your assignment, and drive the school library's operations forward based on the organization's goals and students' needs. You are relationship-building and establish good collaborations with students, educators, school leadership, and colleagues. At the same time, you have good collaboration skills and actively contribute to joint development of school library services. Furthermore, you have a strategic approach and can see how the school library's work contributes to students' learning and the school's overall goals. You also have good digital competence and an interest in using digital tools, media, and technical solutions to strengthen students' reading development and their media and information literacy.
