Description:

Society faces significant challenges related to climate change and sustainable systems for material and energy supply. The forest's diversity of products, services, and functions will be crucial for a sustainable society. Against this backdrop, the Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen) sees a need to strengthen forest management expertise with a focus on the forest's range of functions and various value chains for products and services. We at the Swedish Forest Agency are looking for a forest management specialist who wants to help develop the agency's forest management expertise. Forest management is about designing measures so that the forest can deliver products, services, and functions demanded by forest owners and society based on their objectives and requirements—both today and in the future. This includes questions about forest management's role in, among other things, sustainable forest growth, climate benefits and adaptation, resilience, nature and cultural environment values, reindeer herding, and recreational values. In your role as a forest management specialist at the Forest Unit, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to knowledge development regarding forest management's role in, for example, diverse forestry, climate benefits and adaptation, and wood properties. As a specialist, you will be responsible for training, knowledge compilations, and participation as an expert in investigations and projects. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues at district and unit levels, as well as with other authorities and organizations. The Forest Unit is responsible for providing specialist and knowledge support in various subject areas both internally within the agency and through external contacts nationally and internationally. We collaborate with research institutions and participate in research and development projects. The Forest Unit currently has 26 employees at twelve different locations across the country. Job Content You will take national responsibility for the Swedish Forest Agency's work within forest management. You will work both at a strategic national level and at a more operational regional and local level. Environmental monitoring and a broad network of contacts are important for disseminating and acquiring knowledge. As a specialist, you are expected to provide knowledge support in the forest management field both internally within the agency and externally within the forest sector. You will play an important role in developing activities, policy instruments, information, monitoring systems, and the agency's forest management work itself. You will work closely with the unit's other forest management specialists and other subject specialists in areas such as climate, cultural heritage protection, nature conservation, and the social values of forests. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a university or college degree with a focus on forest management. We would like you to have a doctoral degree in forest management issues or related subject areas and/or have substantial experience in development work within forest management. Special emphasis is placed on the ability and interest in working with value chains for forest products and services. Documented knowledge of forest management with a focus on one or more of the following aspects is meritorious: forest management for diverse forestry, climate benefits and adaptation, and wood properties. You are driven and responsible. You have good ability to communicate in speech and writing in Swedish, are pedagogical, and have the willingness to convey and share your knowledge. To do a good job and thrive in the role, it is important that you are curious about and respectful of others' knowledge and experience. We are looking for a person who has great self-motivation and is persistent, initiative-taking, and responsible. You should also be interested in working with people, group development, and group dynamics. Great emphasis will be placed on your personal suitability. What We Offer You We offer a permanent full-time employment that begins with a probationary period. Placement at one of the Swedish Forest Agency's offices in Sweden.
