Warmth CenterThe Warmth Center serves anyone who at night needs emergency food, shelter, safety, and someone to talk to. In collaboration with our day activities, support and guidance are provided to help change life situations. Working as a social worker at the Warmth Center involves meeting and listening to visitors, managing the operation of the facility, and feeling confident in preventing and handling conflicts and threatening situations together with your colleagues. The facility is operated by Skåne Stadsmission, the Red Cross, and the Swedish Church in collaboration with the City of Malmö, with Skåne Stadsmission holding employer responsibility. Work duties Conversations and respectful meeting of participants' needs for trust and safety. Social counseling and some contact with authorities, supported by day staff. Conflict management. Meal service. Handling of food and laundry. Handling of acute problems in the facility – to ensure operations throughout the night – including error reporting, contact with on-call staff, and urgent cleaning needs. Active participation in regular meetings and maintaining logs. Personal qualities: We seek someone who doesn't shy away from difficulties, pitches in when needed, works quickly and flexibly, is prepared to handle unpredictable situations, and sees the value in taking time to simply listen. You should be aware of your own biases, be able to set them aside, and meet people without preconceptions. You are stable and confident in yourself. You appreciate working in a team where trust is essential to creating a safe environment. Knowledge requirements: Conflict management, both preventative to create a calm environment and handling of acute incidents. The ability to maintain clear rules while working empathetically and recognizing each individual's needs. You need to be equipped to meet homelessness, addiction, violence, prostitution, mental illness, undocumented status – and be able to offer hope and structure to those you meet. Your tools are low-stimulation communication and the ability to build trust – both with the people who need our support and with the authority contacts we work with. Meritorious: Knowledge of the social security system and experience with authority contacts. Experience meeting the target group and appropriate education in pedagogy or social work. Language skills Experience working with people with mental health issues. Scope of employment We seek twelve people for fixed-term employment, 80-100%, and four hourly employees as needed. The position starts October 19, 2026, and ends April 20, 2027. The position begins with a two-week joint training period, scheduled during daytime. Working hours thereafter will be irregular and include night work/evening work during the period November 2, 2026 – April 20, 2027. Collective agreement Skåne Stadsmission: Care and Health – Fremia.
