Registered Nurse with Coordination Responsibility at Färingsö and Svartsjö Correctional Facilities
About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for correctional facilities, probation services, remand prisons, and prisoner transport. Our Stockholm West Business Area in the scenic Ekerö municipality encompasses the open correctional facility Svartsjö, the partially open women's facility Färingsö, and the Färingsö remand prison. Approximately 170 staff members and ten managers oversee, lead, and develop operations that accommodate about 270 inmates. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but the facility also employs healthcare professionals, administrative personnel, educators, production managers, and others. Inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or woodworking, handicraft, and packaging/assembly industries. Inmates also operate an ecological farm with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. Both facilities are within walking distance of each other and are accessible by bus or car. At both facilities, you will park free of charge in our staff parking area. Job Responsibilities The Swedish Prison and Probation Service provides certain open health and medical care, which means all correctional facilities and remand prisons have health clinics where inmates can seek care. In addition to nurses, the clinics are staffed with general practitioners and psychiatrists. As a registered nurse with coordination responsibility, you will share operational responsibility for healthcare at Stockholm West Business Area with the correctional facility inspector. As the coordinating nurse, you are responsible for supervising healthcare personnel, follow-up, quality assurance, and developing operations toward established goals, as well as contributing to the efficient and safe utilization of the business area's total resources. Training in suicide prevention, acute care, and collaboration with other prison staff is included, as is review of healthcare-related invoices. As a nurse, you both maintain your own clinic for assessment of minor conditions and evaluate which patients should see a physician. This means you work with both somatic and psychiatric health and medical care for inmates, assist at physician consultations, and administer medications primarily through dose dispensing. At the Färingsö facility/remand prison, three nurses currently work with shared responsibility for the facility and remand prison. The coordinating nurse is included in one of these positions. In Stockholm West Business Area, the Svartsjö facility also employs three nurses. Together, these nurses will form the Stockholm West Business Area's healthcare team with a shared manager. The nurses at Stockholm West Business Area will cover for each other during training, vacation, or other absences.
