LOCAL HISTORY SPECIALIST

Position Purpose: To ensure unified, high-quality, and coordinated development of local history work in Ropažu Municipality, providing support to library staff, overseeing data processing standards, and promoting the municipality's cultural and historical heritage.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide support and practical assistance to municipal library staff in identifying local history sources and describing data.
Coordinate and oversee the development of analytical descriptions of local and national significance periodicals, documents, or audiovisual materials and their quality export to the Latvian National Library database, creating catalog records in BIS ALISE.
Organize training and experience-sharing events for municipal librarians on local history topics and digital platforms.
Document and research the municipality's contemporary and recent history (oral history, genealogy, community chronicles).
Maintain and develop shared local history resources, electronic union catalog, and digital platforms.
Initiate and organize municipality-wide cultural and educational events, exhibitions, and develop projects (for example, VKKF) to attract funding.
Requirements for Candidates:
Higher education in humanities or social sciences (preferably in library science, history, archival work, or cultural management) or other higher education combined with further education courses in library work.
Experience in library, museum, archive, or research work.
In-depth understanding of library information systems (for example, ALISE) and data description standards.
Ability and willingness to consult, educate, and support colleagues.
State language proficiency at the highest level
Understanding of the Copyright Law and Personal Data Processing requirements.
