Senior Network Technician
Trelleborgs kommun · Full-time
Henry Dunkers gata 1, Trelleborg, Sweden
At Trelleborg, we work together to build a growing, thriving municipality where life is good. Our 61 villages and 21 city districts are creative meeting places that buzz with life. Here we make things happen, talk about them, and show up as we are. This is why we welcome others with the same generosity and curiosity. Welcome to join the journey! The Technical Services Department is Trelleborg Municipality's enabling department. We are a reliable, secure, and value-creating resource that works proactively, efficiently, and sustainably together with those who live, work, and spend time in Trelleborg Municipality. The department's five divisions are responsible within their respective areas for planning, managing, and developing public spaces. We do this by, for example, maintaining the municipality's public areas, managing waste and wastewater, providing water supply, and managing infrastructure. We also deliver internal services such as operating and maintaining the municipality's facilities, facility management, systems administration, and IT support. Since everything Trelleborg Municipality does is based on our core values of openness, respect, and responsibility, it is important and crucial that these values are equally self-evident for you as they are for us in our work. Help build the future digital Trelleborg Do you want to take on a leading technical role in an expanding municipality where the network is critical for schools, care services, the port, water/wastewater, and community-critical operations? With us, you'll work closely with both technology and operations, influence strategic decisions, and develop a robust, secure, and modern network platform for the entire municipal organization. Trelleborg is growing, and several new operations, properties, and projects will become separate sites in the future. This creates exciting opportunities for you to be involved from idea and design through implementation, standardization, and long-term management. You'll have the opportunity to influence and develop a large and mission-critical IT environment where your decisions make a real difference for residents, operations, and the municipality's future development. You'll follow the entire chain from idea, design, and architecture through implementation, operation, and further development—and see the results of your work in practice. We actively invest in skills development through training, certifications, conferences, and knowledge sharing so you can continue growing as a network technician. The Workplace The Digitalization and IT unit has approximately 40 employees who deliver stable, secure, and operationally aligned IT services. The IT Operations team consists of 10 employees with broad responsibility for infrastructure, systems operations, data centers, and networks across the municipal organization. We work without hierarchy and closely together. At our workplace, good ideas are welcome, and we listen to improvements that strengthen the municipality and our operations. You'll work in a unit with other network technicians and systems technicians to further develop the IT environment. Role and Responsibilities You'll become part of a comprehensive and varied technical environment with high demands for availability, security, and documentation. The environment includes approximately 750 switches, multiple sites, wireless networks, segmented network environments, dedicated data centers, and new establishments that progressively develop into separate sites. Here you'll find both stable management and exciting development. You'll work with routing, switching, firewalls, network security, segmentation, IPAM, and documentation, while also helping to shape standards and strategic directions for the future. As a senior network technician, you'll have a central expert role responsible for developing, managing, and future-proofing the municipality's networks. You'll work both strategically and operationally with architecture, design, security, lifecycle management, and changes—overseeing the network that connects schools, preschools, Trelleborg Port, water/wastewater facilities, mission-critical operations, and the municipality's data centers. The network technician role is broad and offers you the opportunity to both drive development and stay close to the technical reality. You'll take technical responsibility for parts of the municipality's network platform and work on developing network architecture, design principles, and technical standards. You'll plan and implement changes with clear risk assessments and monitoring, while strengthening network security through segmentation, secure configurations, and firewall work. The role also includes troubleshooting incidents, analyzing root causes, and proposing preventive measures. You'll contribute to projects related to new operations, construction, and technical implementations, and ensure quality in IPAM, network documentation, and lifecycle planning. The role also involves serving as a technical advisor to colleagues, projects, and external vendors, as well as sharing knowledge and contributing to ongoing competency development within IT Operations. On-call duty is part of the position and normally occurs approximately every ten weeks. Compensation is provided according to the applicable collective agreement. Qualifications We're looking for someone with relevant post-secondary education in IT or equivalent experience that the employer considers equivalent. You have several years of experience with networks and security at a senior level, along with very strong knowledge of routing, switching, network design, and firewalls. The position requires a Category B driver's license for manual transmission vehicles. You are confident in your technical competence, take responsibility for the whole and quality, and collaborate easily with both technical specialists and operations staff. You are organized, security-conscious, and consistently document your work. It is advantageous if you have experience with Aruba and HPE, firewall management in larger IT environments, data center infrastructure, Linux in operational environments, and working methods according to ITIL or similar frameworks. This recruitment uses rolling selection. Other Information The position requires Swedish citizenship, security clearance, and background check.
