The Orthopedics Department at Skåne University Hospital (Sus) consists of approximately 500 employees and is one of Sweden's largest orthopedic operations with services within all orthopedic subspecialties. The department comprises six sections, three ward units and two outpatient clinics as well as rehabilitation and administration/secretariat in Malmö and Lund. The Spine Section at Sus is a highly specialized operation with a regional mandate in advanced spine surgery, including complex deformity surgery. For several patient groups, the catchment area covers the entire Southern Healthcare Region. The operation combines highly specialized care with research and education in an academic environment with good conditions for continued development. The Spine Section is simultaneously in a development phase with high ambitions within accessibility, quality, research, education, and competency supply. There is a clear regional ambition to further develop spine care in Skåne, where Sus plays an important role in staying at the forefront. As section chief, you have a central role in this work. You will develop an operation with an academic profile and international reputation. 1 position(s). JOB DUTIES We are seeking a section chief for the spine section, specialist physician, senior resident, or attending physician, who wants to lead a highly specialized operation. Here you get a stimulating leadership assignment where you combine clinical work with operational responsibility and the opportunity to influence the development of spine care, research, and education. The Spine Section consists of approximately 12 specialist physicians with broad expertise in degenerative, traumatic, and complex deformity surgery. The operation is conducted in Malmö at the New Hospital Area, one of the country's most modern hospitals, completed in 2025. As section chief, you are responsible for operations, employees, finances, and development. You lead specialist physicians and physicians in training and work toward high medical quality, good accessibility, and a sustainable work environment. You create conditions for employee development and contribute to long-term competency supply. You report to the operations manager and are part of the department's management group where you contribute to the development of the entire department. We offer complementary leadership training if needed to support you in your role. To combine the section chief role as a specialist physician, you must be a licensed physician with authorization to practice in Swedish healthcare and have: - specialist competence in orthopedics or equivalent - completed or planned course in clinical supervision - Swedish language skills at minimum level C1 according to the Council of Europe's scale To combine the section chief role with senior resident, you also need: - full-time service of at least three years (documented effective time) - clinical proficiency and independence in orthopedics or equivalent - documented teaching and supervision merits For employment as attending physician, you also need: - full-time service of at least five years (documented effective time) - doctoral degree (dissertation) Dissertation and/or specialist exam may be credited together as equivalent to six months of clinical service. It is advantageous if you have leadership training and experience in management work. Great weight is placed on personal suitability. At a university healthcare facility, physicians are required to have pedagogical experience and education. This can be acquired through supervision of, for example, nursing and medical students, physicians in training, and as co-supervisor or main supervisor of doctoral students.
