Counselor at the Alcohol, Gambling, and Drug Problems Unit
GÖTEBORGS KOMMUN · Full-time
Göteborgs Stad, Göteborg, Sweden
The Alcohol, Gambling, and Drug Problems Unit consists of three counseling clinics with a mission to serve adults from throughout Gothenburg. We work with individuals who seek help on their own initiative to change their problematic habits with gambling, alcohol, or drugs. We also serve family members. At our counseling clinics, we always work with a family- and child-oriented focus. We view harmful use and addiction as a multifactorial problem and work to prevent addiction as early as possible by offering advisory, supportive, and therapeutic conversations. We meet people at different stages of their change process and approach each person based on their individual needs and life situation. Job Responsibilities Your responsibilities as a counselor/social worker at the Alcohol, Gambling, and Drug Problems Unit include conducting independent conversations with clients. These conversations can take various forms—individual, couples, family, or group sessions. Together with the client, you formulate treatment goals and work toward them. You work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues. The Alcohol, Gambling, and Drug Problems Unit is a workplace where we share responsibility for the whole. We can offer you engaging and developmental work in our competent team. Staff at the clinics receive ongoing external supervision and professional development. As a social worker at the Alcohol, Gambling, and Drug Problems Unit, you will work therapeutically across all unit activities. Your primary placement will be at Respons Alkoholrådgivning, but you will also rotate and provide support as needed at the other unit activities. Qualifications We are looking for someone who wants to contribute their knowledge and expertise and make a difference for those we serve. We require a degree in social work or other education that the employer deems equivalent. It is highly advantageous if you also have basic psychotherapy training, equivalent to level 1. You should have experience working with counseling treatment, preferably with a focus on substance abuse and addiction issues. It is also advantageous if you have previously worked with a family- and child-oriented focus. You are attentive, unpretentious, and confident in yourself. You have strong commitment to the target group, ability to build good relationships, and enjoy working both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues. You are observant and open to understanding other people's needs, feelings, and opinions. You are receptive to what others say or express and demonstrate respect, consideration, and care in your interactions. You have good initiative and collaboration skills and are accustomed to structuring your work independently. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities and are convinced that diversity promotes development. Other Information In this recruitment process, you will answer a number of questions where you describe your experience and knowledge instead of submitting a cover letter.
